Mystery solved! I found the original painting that the chalice comes from. It's by Sebastiano Conca, an Italian painter. It was done in 1746. It is called "Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane". As I suspected, it portrays Christ being visited by an angel prior to his arrest and crucifixion, right ...

I found a painting called "Agony in the Garden" that has a chalice in a similar position, but it isn't an exact match. It is from a bible scene involving an angel offering the cup to Jesus (maybe takes place just after the last supper). A google search revealed that it is actually a popular subject ...
