I suggest we make the CYPHER ring, not the decoder ring.spiff5000 wrote:It depends on the type of ring...

LOL...I think Cypher was answering a question that came up in the other thread...
One may be able to see, and still be blind. A blind person, if given the right information, may be able to see it all fit together.

It was pointed out earlier (by the person who first posted those pictures, I think) that the decoder ring and the cypher ring are actually the same thing.
quizzoc - SparkyB has now tried the all uppercase set, and had no more luck than we did with the upper and lower. Just an update. I didn't mean to sound like I didn't think your idea was a good one.

Sorry this was on the wrong thread so it's a double
Break thru!
The wheel is part of a cipher.
The key is 112, E was in brackets
So I set the inside 1 to the outside E - so 6 = 5
I set inside 1 to outside E again - B = 4
I set inside 2 to outside E - 3 = 4
Repeat the 112 patern
At the moment I mangled the back half and got
TESTär!!
Edit: It's TESTär!! after taking it from hex to text
Edit the sequal: The outside ring is the movies the inner ring is lovelines

We improve with time. Like a fine wine, really.

Geez, I feel dumb. I looked at that 'E' the first time and thought it had something to do with it... but I got all caught up in the ASCII 112 = p thing.
Just for reference... so we're using the same lingo in the future:
The 'E' is the key
The '1 1 2' is the keyword
The movement of '1 1 2' to decode is the key shift

okay this is all just totally hurting my head lol
i've been following you guys for a while now.. trying to learn all the mathematics and codes and stuff so i can try and learn to do these puzzles on my own.
i'm reading over that site spiff put up there and very vaguely understanding it.
sorry if this is a dumb question- but wth is a hex code?

Hex is short for Hexadecimal which is a computer code made of letter/number pairsJustAnotherLonelyGirl. wrote:okay this is all just totally hurting my head lol

Take a look at the Decoder Rings that TigerLilyLynn made:windsong wrote:I'm having a hard time visualizing how this was solved. When you say outside one is set to E, what does that mean? I understand the 112 part, but I dont understand how E ring fits.
Can anyone help to clear this up for me?

These are the numbers from 1-F in the order accordings to the times found in the movies puzzle for the larger (outer) ring and the LoveLine puzzle for the smaller (inner) ring. When assembled, the letters of the inner ring line up with the ones on the outer ring, but the inner ring can be rotated to line up in different ways. In order to use the decoder ring to decode a messages, once you have it lined up right (more about that in a second) you find a number from the encrypted message on the outer ring and replace it by the corresponding number on the inside ring. In order to line up the 2 rings, you need to know one of the pairs that line up. In the case of this small test, we start by lining the E on the outer ring with the 1 on the inner ring.
Taking the two rings:
Code: Select all
C64FB2835D7A91E (outer)
C2D61A5EF4793B8 (inner)
Code: Select all
C64FB2835D7A91E
A5EF4793B8C2D61
The 112 means that we don't always leave it lined up the same way. we might align it differently for each number in the message. So first the first number we align E with 1, for the second we align E with 1, for the third we align E with 2, and this pattern repeats. I hope this helps

You have to align the (ouside) E and the (inside) 1 then decode the coded character.windsong wrote:I'm having a hard time visualizing how this was solved. When you say outside one is set to E, what does that mean? I understand the 112 part, but I dont understand how E ring fits.

Great job though there were no real hints as to how to solve this shit you did it! So my assumptions on the 112 being a decoding thing were right..
