Zosyn and Cerebyx
So, Daniel found brochures for the drugs Zosyn and Cerebryx, both of which are injected. Zosyn is an antibiotic, and Cerebryx is an anti-seizure drug.
Is this what was in Bree's injections?
If so, why?
A fake demon possession simulated by sudden withdrawal from an overdose of unnecessary anti-seizure medication, perhaps?
And why did she not have a seizure while on the run?

Re: Zosyn and Cerebyx
As far as we know, she only started taking those shots as part of the preparation for the ceremony. She probably doesn't need that medication normally.Spiletta42 wrote:And why did she not have a seizure while on the run?
One theory is that whatever those pills she was taking are, they might have had seizures as a possible side effect, and the Cerebyx was to keep them in check.

It does seem like a possible explaination. The room they were in does look like an office:islandlove wrote:maybe they werent even her medications and her dad just has them because hes a doctor

Over in the thread about the video "Back at Bree's," people have posted the results of some excellent research about the possible purposes of the drugs. One purpose of Cerebryx is to make people more easily controlled (that is, if the literature wasn't misread and actually refers to making seizures more easily controlled -- this interpretation just occurred to me as I was typing this message). And one possible purpose of Zosyn is to help clear up pelvic inflammatory disease, an illness specifically contracted by women that may relate to fertility or to trauma of the genitalia.
Gigglingmonk has a good point, though, about the room where the pamphlets were found. Bree's dad is supposedly a doctor. Maybe that's his at-home office.

those papers he shuffles around were doctors information packets on the drugs.

I agree that the discussion in the Video thread had some great points, but was hard to wade through. There was a lot of OT stuff going on there ( not all of it pleasant and/or friendly...I might add.) So I responding here.
These drug pamphlets confuse me quite a bit. From what I can tell, neither drug would be incredibly effective as a protective measure...Antibiotics are generally only used when a bacterial infection is present, most would not need to be "stockpiled" in the body to prevent one from occuring. ( ie why not just take it when you have the infection?)
As for the Cerebyx, it does prevent siezures, but it looks more like it used in emergency situations, ( like brain surgery) when used in someone who doesn't already have siezures, and from what I can tell it's effects do not last incredibly long, ( though I am quite prepared to admit that I may be misinterpreting all that medical Jargon...). Similarly, it is not approved for long term use, it looked like a month and a half or so was the time limit. ( meaning that it would be more likely to be used as something to prevent side effects from the preparations for the ceremony and not from the ceremony itself.)
This leaves open some interesting questions for me....what could they possibly have been doing to prepare Bree that could have been so dangerous that it could cause bacterial infections and siezures? Was it the diet? ( Some siezures do occur due to electrolyte imbalances and severe vitamin/mineral deficiencies, but could you get that malnourished in a month?) It almost seems like they were giving her something that would drastically impair her CNS and/or immune system, especially if you believe her that the pills were Iron pills.
I haven't had the time to research that part of it yet, but it seems like an interesting direction to me.
As an aside, L.Lass, I was curious about the mind controlling thing too when you first mentioned it, but it seems like a bit of a stretch to me the more I look into it. The mind altering aspects seem like they are more associated with other chemical constructions... though I am the first to admit that I have expected a lot more realism from this series than has been evident.....
The other path I am exploring is that Bree's Dad did not actually know what he was injecting her with, and only found out after the Deacons/Lucy got involved, which leaves open the possiblity that he is either researching what he gave her, or what he could use to help her should she be forced to go through with the ceremony. Or maybe he was even researching them in response to some sort of threat that the Order made when they refused to go through with the ceremony?
Wow, sorry so long!

yeah, that does seem like a likely possibility. especially since if they really are Cerebyx and Zosyn, the connections between the medication and Bree/the ceremony are loose, at best.islandlove wrote:maybe they werent even her medications and her dad just has them because hes a doctor
but maybe not.
Jonas: way too hot to be true.
Actually, ABs can be used prophylactically, i.e. someone with MVP (mitral valve prolapse) takes one large dose about an hour before dental appointments.Macabea13 wrote:Antibiotics are generally only used when a bacterial infection is present, most would not need to be "stockpiled" in the body to prevent one from occuring.
