Locks of Love ??

Post by LONGTIMELURKER »

After 2 1/2 years of growing it out,I want to donate to Locks of Love...

My hair is now 10" past my shoulders, very thick & wavy/curly ,auburn colored...mostly one length...

If I cut it now it will just hit my shoulders.

My question to anyone ,is this ...should I wait a bit longer or cut it now ?

Has anyone ever done this ?any advice ?

I am taking all opinions before I decide....Thansk for your input!

I did it a few years ago! The donation has to be at least ten inches, so you might want to wait a bit more! It's great you want to donate. :)

My sister donated 14 inches when she got pregnant for the first time, she needed something easier to manage. She loved her hair. And it looked great, she has kept it short ever since.
I am having a BABY boy.

i donated mine two weeks ago!

choosing when to donate honestly depends on how comfortable you are with short hair. i haven't had mine shoulder length for about seven years, so i decided to let mine grow out REALLY long (3-4 inches above my butt.) it looked okay but it was a pain in the neck to take care of, and quite honestly it got rather annoying. it's still pretty long now (see my av.. it's about an inch or two longer when i wear it straight)

if you're okay with having short-ish hair, go ahead and cut it! it's a great cause, it's great that you're donating it :)

Aww that's sweet!!

I'm growing my hair out right now. It's past my mid-back almost to my butt (I have no idea how long it is though).

Maybe I should do this too when I get sick of it. :)

Ugh...locks of love is a horribly shady organization if you ask me! Seriously! In all honesty...I'd go with some other organization that at least doesn't hide so much from the public.

Please remember these things before cutting:
LoL does NOT take processed hair. It must be HEALTHY VIRGIN hair. Any hair that has been dyed or highlighted will automatically be thrown away.

They do sell a lot of the hair they get. They really don't like to get hair from adults. Adult hair is must courser than children's hair. Childern's hair is fine and they want the child to look normal. Your hair has more of a possibility as being used for extensions than it does on a kid's head.

The wigs are not given to cancer patients. They are given to children with long term medical conditions. They also charge the children's families an amount that depends on their income levels. Most the time it is not free as they lead the public to believe.

Also remember most want a cure...not hair.

Personal opinion here but why not donate cash to fund research or a real charity? It seems like so many are jumping on the LoL bandwagon and donating so they can say they did something.

Wow...How do you know all this??

I was actually wondering if they even took dyed hair. I guess I'm out then because I've been dying my hair since I was a teen (since I have gray hairs). I still think my hair looks good though lol :)

I am part of a long hair community (but I'm actually growing out...don't have that long of hair yet. It's only a few inches from my bra strap ^_^). The LoL discussion comes up A LOT and we've pretty much pick apart the entire LoL site and read all about them on the Better Business Bureau. The long hair site is down due to server problems so all the links will have to wait until the owner gets it back up. **wonders if she also got the beauty bottle back up yet from the hacker...hmmm**

The link is not what I wanted to show because there was a lot of useful links in some of the threads that showed finacial reports and stuff. But it will be okay until the site gets back up...I trust the author of the blog since she is a mod in the community there. ^_^

Well,IMHO if I am going to cut my hair anyway, why not donate it ?Why waste it ?

and I am not on any "bandwagon" either,I have wanted to look into this for a loonngggg time....

but to each their own opinion...and I DID ask for all opnions!!!:)

Maybe there are other charities that make wigs to donate ??? I will research that option too.

And btw, I DO donate my time and money to various cancer charities .... b/c like most people today,Cancer has touched my life in some way...

(rant over, resume your regularly scheduled discussions...)

they DO take dyed hair, just not bleached or hair that is overly processed to the point of being seriously unhealthy.

ilovemusictoo - are you sure? idk, i find that hard to believe. if it is true... pretty shady. but as long as they do use the hair, even if it doesnt go to cancer patients, it still seems like a good thing.

What exactly is a long haired community? I have never heard it put that way before. My hair is about 2 inches past my butt. I have been growing it out for about 5 years now. It gets frustrating sometimes, but I have my reasons for not cutting it. Was just curious.
