Jonas as a character kind of grew on me. At first, everything about him screamed *plot device!!!!!!!* from the first time I saw his videos, and it really bugged me that it actually took two weeks for him to satisfy his obvious plot role (i.e. providing a place for Bree to stay. Come on, you KNEW it was gonna happen). I'm not saying he isn't a plot device now though... but I do think he's trustworthy.
When Bree and Daniel first got displaced, by far the most common suggestion was that "since the Creators said LG15 will get more interactive... Bree and Daniel should stay at ___insert random prolific fan's name__'s house in California." Obviously, that wasn't going to fly, because despite us wanting to believe to the contrary, they are still fictional characters that do not physically exist in our world beyond their 2 minute videos. So in comes "Jonas", who is supposed to be one of "us", except that he actually exists in the Breeniverse.
He starts of with a couple innocuous video replies, like many fans. "Hi, I'm Jonas, I'm a big fan of your videos, blah blah advice to Bree blah blah". But unlike the average fan, he can actually interact with the characters and do the obvious--invite the homeless teens into his house.
And now he's entered the plot. I do think there's more beneath his surface than he's letting on (*perks up*... he has offhandedly mentioned psych stuff a couple of times), and there is a possibility his parents worked for the Order/against the Order/are still alive... BUT I think Jonas would not know that stuff himself.
His character started out rough, but has slowly been streamlined into a more... real persona. At first he was like, "I'm RICH in a BIG HOUSE and I have no friends. And I'm a boxer! No, wait... I'm a skater! No wait... I'm a loser!" The Creators have mentioned that for each new character they have brought in new writers/directors, so I think the rough start might have had something to do with this. Obviously once Bree and Daniel have entered into the Jonas videos, the Creators have probably taken full control, which is why Jonas' writing seems much more realistic now.
Back to the original question (ack.. it's late... so I ramble), I think Jonas was "jumpy" (is that her dad? it's her dad!) because he is back into his persona as the average fan who has suddenly been thrust into the world of a video series he follows. Wouldn't you have a similar reaction if all of a sudden Bree and Daniel decided to shack up with you, and then Bree stole your car (!!!!!) and then you get to see her elusive dad almost up close? Remember, up until that video, Jonas has seen just as much of Bree's dad as we have, and besides his golfer's hat he could just about be any of the blurry Deacons/watchers/etc in the background.
Did Jonas know Bree's dad?
