Hey, wickist, are you really in Wisconsin? I did some cold-weather training in Fort McCoy years ago.

Sorry to bring up such a tender subject! I just remember the area fondly, but it was cold! I learned all kinds of neat cold-weather survival stuff that I will never use, as I will not venture into that area again!

Well, I had to train to survive in the Arctic. This was all during the Cold War. They taught us (Marine Infantry) how to ski and shoot. I actually became pretty good at it.

They also taught us how to dig "snow coffins." I have spent many nights deep in the snow.

I actually went on an excercise in Norway later, above the Artic circle.

The really cool tricks we learned were deception tactics. I built a fake jeep out of snow and wood on a hillside one time that you would never know wasn't the real thing until you were 30 feet away! It was fun.

I was in the Marine Corps for six years. It was a good experience, but I don't recommend it for anyone today.

That's cool, I would have been an administrative Marine, but I was all gung-ho about the infantry! They also paid me a hefty bonus to enlist as a guarenteed infantryman.

But all Marines are warriors. Even if your brother is in administration, he is a fighter. I salute him!
