The papers all say that "JOHNNY IS TRUANT!"
And his mother's reportedly ruined.
He's gone to the wind,
God knows how he's sinned,
'Cause in Latin he's practically fluent

I don't know if this matters, but:

Johnny Truant is a band.

I'm too tired and what about the stuff from "Awry"?
It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story.

This quote comes from the intriguing novel that explores a fictional documentary The House of Leaves (the novel) and The Navidson Record (the fictional documentary).

This is a pretty good review of Danielewski's novel. I'm not sure if it helps at all, but it might shed some insight into the minds of the producers.

I'm sure it ties in somehow because one of the original quotes was something to the effect of "Let's get the band back together". But then, I'm too tired also. :smt015

The author of House of Leaves wrote his novel as his sister, Poe, recorded a full-length album of the same story.
"Poe's statement on the connection between the two works is that they are parallax views of the same story. House of Leaves references Poe and her songs several times..."

If you're looking for an interesting, freaky book to read, I'd recommend House of Leaves. It must be a publisher's nightmare, though. Lots of pages where the footnotes take up the entire page, or where the text consists of a few sentences angled diagonally or spiralling inward. Sometimes there's even a page with just one word on it!

The most intriguing aspect of the book publishing-wise is that every mention of the word "house" (even Random House) is grayed-out (or, the opposite of bold). Also, any sentence mentioning "minotaur" is striked-out. All freaky, but a great effect.

The bolding of "house" in the profile is a nice reference to the effect in the book.

Ah, yes... I did typesetting for awhile, several eons back, when typesetting was still done. I can't even begin to imagine having to do this book. This would have been a nightmare! (there's more than one reason right there to thank all the blue gods for computers, I'm telling you!) House of Leaves, for all that, would definitely have been a book that I'd've given anything to try working on though! (cuz I do love a challenge!
Diane, or cher, or even chershaytoute, but "Hey, you!" works, too...

So, does anyone else feel that House of Leaves is at all, in any way, kind of, sort of, or even remotely significant to understanding theD, or is it just my desperation to connect everything to literature?

I dunno... Remember, that's also a quote from the Blues Brothers movie, which is kind of "period"...though not quite...

And this, to me, seems to indicate that gogo's got it pegged, yes... <nodding terribly sagely> <grin>

I think you're right on the money with this. I'll have to break out the book now, but perhaps the parallax reference is significant.
