[PUZZLE][SOLVED] Semiotics 2/22/07

Excuse this as I work through my thoughts here...if Ruberic is correct, it is something that both Tachyon and Daniel would understand without explanation. Given that they both feel as though they were neglected as children and Nancy Drew books are things that children usually read, could it be CHILDHOOD?

And again, my apologies if this was tried already....

Thats the trick. Semiotics is a little fuzzy here. Anything can be a message or symbol, you have to decipher what it means to you, and hope that the sender is the same.

Example: Looking for a bathroom. Most western civilizaitons post symbols of men and women...or use the words "men" or "women". The creator of the symbol, and we as the bathroom users, have grown accustom to recognizing the symbol being the same as the words they represent...with noone really needing to stand there and explain it each time.

However...if we were not from the west and could not read English...the word would be impossible for us. Thats where the symbols help. The symbols are just of a man or woman...but the mind makes them into the symbol representing the appropriate bathrooms.

IF tachyon is using Semiotics...we need to find that passage/word/etc. that would represent itself as a flag to the password, using all the tips left by Tachyon.

sorry if that looks like a bunch of gibberish...thats exactly how it reads

it could be another language because sometimes other languages like chinese or arabic come out as random symbols if you dont have the language pack installed

Hmm...that's an interesting idea, Z. After all, "where it all started" could refer to childhood as well. Anybody want to give it a whirl?

longlostposter and others, remember that "before you" can have multiple meanings. It could mean the thing right in front of Daniel, but it could mean the thing preceeding Daniel, or preceeding where he is right now (temporally, physically, etc.).

edit: Tried childhood in all configurations...no good.

It's not beginning though, it's "where it all started," -- and that "all" makes it seem unlikely that she's talking about the beginning of the note.

just a reminder

daniel may have found the package, that does not necesarily[spelling like a mofo, sorry] mean it was intended for him to crack.

afterall, tachyon said she would give BREE the password when it was ready, or was that just a generalization? if it was intended just for daniel, they would have put it somewhere more personal, or written his name on it (moreso than wyatt, i think anyway), or something.

that's assuming they didn't know he'd be the one to find it.

so with this semiotics meaning you all have been discussing, it could be more than daniel and tachyon's meaning of a word.

I believe that the term "beginning" does not refer to the note...as it is located in the text of the note. I believe the note has a key for us...and the term beginning is telling us something about where we will find information to use the key.

Otherwise...why would she send the books and the note if the note was the only clue.

Yes, and this comes back to Bree has read the book that Daniel is reading. Who did she say did it?
