so this makes me ask this question:

If by sudden chance we hack this password, is it a bright idea to share it?
If its by chance, not a "brute force" or anything, we can post it. Its like when we have most of a voicemail #, then start blind dialing.

Two things to look out for: 1) that we aren't malicious in our "guessing" of the password through hacking; 2) that we can work backward from the answer to get all relivant info.

That was the problem with us hacking the password that last time, we ended up missing some information that we then had to go back and scramble to get.

Lad, responding to something you said earlier. If we were not to find the password now but let mister smartBeast  find the clues, why would they give us the file now?

LOL yeah, that's about it. I mean, if you guess it w/o hacking then you have to have SOME theory as to why that would be the right password, right? :)

And I'll be honest, if we could "brute force" this, it would already be in the works. But from what I'm told, with it being 7 characters and case sensitive (per current theory) it would take months.

I don't think that its a matter of us letting the D find the password, its a matter of possibly waiting for more information to be imparted...

If that is the case, there could be 2 reasons:

1) So that we can see the information in the file for ourselves. There may also hidden information in the file that Daniel would not find, but we would;

2) We get the file now, Daniel fails to decode it, then we get information later that lets us decode it. Or we just need more information first.

I think you guys are going to drive me crazy with the editions and years published thing.

The books that Daniel has are the most current editions (read=reprints), and are what would be expected to be easily available to us. Books 1-56 are available as either a set, singly, or in packages of 2 or 3 (places like Costco). Books 57-64 (I believe it's correct... might be wrong in how high it goes, might go higher) are ALSO reprinted in similar covers to match, but were not available in the large set.

The older books, especially 1-56, have been reprinted in so many editions in so many years that to track anything other then original publication date would most likely be an exercise in futility. Even the new yellows may have various publication dates, with all else remaining the same.

And here are the pics I was tired and went to be instead of posting. These are the specific editions Daniel has. I do not have The Twin Dilemma for comparison, but from Amazon's image of that title, it's obviously a closer fit then any I have. (And my apologies... taking pics with the cell phone was quicker at 2 a.m.)

I was able to rule out anything with 4+ words, not just because our screen cap makes it look like 3 words, but due to the layout of the titles or color of the backgrounds. I also eliminated the 3-word layouts that were 3 lines, and the ones with very light backgrounds. This is what was left from the first 56.

Image
Nope, lines of title are extremely uneven.

Image
No dice, still not close to even.

Image
I like the darkness of this one, but the title isn't close enough.

Image
The closest to even, but still very visually off.

Which made me decide that it couldn't be any of the first 56. I was actually a bit relieved to come back after that and see that there was a suggestion of one not in the first 56, because the ones I was looking at weren't cutting it.

Oh, yes. And a shot of Password to Larkspur Lane at a similar angle.
Image

Hmm.
#7 The Clue in the Diary
#10 Password to Larkspur Lane
#19 The Quest of the Missing Map
#52 The Secret of the Forgotten City
#63 The Twin Dilemma

Diary - video blog?
Password - we like those, don't we?
Map - We've seen those, too... and Op needs one. But it could reference the Forgotten City, too
Forgotten City - Dendera(h)?
Twin - yet another twin reference.

Most of the titles available don't have nice, convenient references that could apply like these do... then again, it could be lucky coincidence. :)[/img]

Wow,looks like you guys are crackin down on this. I've been going over the clues and coming up with differant interpratations of each clue that could lead to the possible PW. I'm sort of new at this, so I'm going to spare myself possible embarassment and keep my info to myself for now.

Ahh, but Tachyon is famous for doling out her information in itty, bitty little pieces...we have to wait for the irritating, I mean lovely, young lady to send us more pieces of the puzzle...

No! Share with us! Your new outlook on the current info may help us find out the password!

Also guys, if you are bored and want to bug someone for more info, Danielbeast just posted in his "in character" thread.

*muttering*

must restrain from posting picture of Flash Gordon...

Does anyone want me to read the Clue in the Old Diary? I can bang it out in a few hours, once I pick it up from my parents house...
