Okay I know the stars thing probably doesn't mean anything and this is really just something quite mad but anyway. Part of the synopsis of 'The Secret in the Stars':
Tachyon? But when Nancy finds Steller's van deserted and runs into a hostile rival of the astronomer, she senses a dangerous black hole in the event. Then Dr. Steller finally appears -- or is he an optical illusion? As Nancy uncovers more evidence, her suspicions lead her into a sinister scheme moving faster than the speed of light!

I still don't have it, but I thought I'd let everybody know that I did manage to get a word that fit the puzzle and has 11 numbers, 3 letters in hexadecimal. With the title of the file being "SEMIOTICS," I was thinking maybe "where it all began" could be symbols, so I tried "symbols." I also tried "Symbols" and "SYMBOLS," so you can add these three failures to the list:

This damn password
I'm not great at codebreaking, but I've been giving it a try now for about two hours...no luck...
It's getting my brain mushed.
My daughter (who's 3) just said "E-I-E-I-S-2-4"
And I thought, "Maybe THAT'S it!"
