This is the sequence I entered:

The sequence output is 93 bp long

MGNTGGAARCCNCAYGAYMTNMTNGGNACNAARATGGCNATGTGYACNTGYATGTGYAAYCCNWSNMGNGAYACNGCNTGYMGNAAYWSNTGY

These letters all correspond to amino acids:

M methionine
G glycine
N asparagine
T threonine
G glycine
G glycine
A alanine
A alanine

blah blah blah

Y tyrosine
W tryptophan
S serine
N asparagine
T threonine
G glycine

Maybe I have been spending too much time in Facility J.
Holy shaved almonds that's a lot of research!

edit -- i know we're playing around with genetics in this storyline, but would amino acids have to do with this? epogen had to do with red blood cell counts and stuff....

Ok, I would have thought someone would have said this by now, but I don't see it anywhere, so I'll post it.

The US being referred to as a "modern Empire" has to do with the Roman Empire. Some people view what is going on in the US as an attempt to bring about a modern "Roman" empire.
....righhttt, the connection to the ancient empires is obvious and the reference to Modern Empire is well noted with me. That wasn't actually what I was asking.

What I was asking though, was, is this the ONLY meaning for the word "modern empire", and then does this then mean the report only covers the order in America?

That could have an impact on the story. Posh spice would not be involved.

;)

I had the same question myself. When I googled Modern Empire, I was surprised at how little useful information showed up.

But here's an obscure little article I ran across that has an interesting perspective that I think fits with the World Wide distribution of the order.
From "The Nation" July 29, 2004
"Ditch the Distraction in Chief". by Naomi Klein

"We began to understand modern empire not as the purview of a single nation, no matter how powerful, but a global system of interlocking states, international institutions and corporations, an understanding that allowed us to build global networks in response, from the World Social Forum to Indymedia."

Honestly ... I am quite new to this ...

Jehova's Witnesses use Erythropoietin "Epogen" ....

Eh ... Not sure if this is any help ...

Reason I thought of this is they believe in the Bible and at one part I believe Act 15:28, 23 or somewhere near there ... "Abstain from Blood" ... So they can't have blood transfusions ... Yet ... Erythropoietin is another way to increase her red blood cells ...

She may have Iron Deficiancy Anemias if she needs epogen ...

And For the amino acids and epogen and such ... Only disease I can think of is ALD which is almost impossible ... There are some uses for Epogen in ALD meds ... (Lorenzo's Oil) ... It's late ... No clue what I'm writing. Please ... Don't hurt me because I'm new to these forums :)

 It may look impressive, but I have no clue what I'm doing. It's probably all nonsense. I'm sure someone who really understands genetics would laugh at me. But it got me thinking, so I thought I'd throw it out for consideration. Maybe it will get the wheels turning for someone who understands these things better than I .

well guys, I am not a genetics expert, but I am in medical school so I kinda have a good idea of what all that means...

No offense, but I don't think it's quite the right track.

True it's an amino acid sequence, but that doesn't help us unless we know the protein it encodes. The only protein I could think that would be relavent considering the Epogen, would be Hemoglobin. And that's not the sequence for it.

I think it's probably more along the lines of initials for something, what I have no idea, but i'm thinking initials for shizzy...
SO SO SO ADDICTIVE....

Just posting some stuff. CC makes me think Carbon Copy as in e-mail, but I dunno. So here is some googling:

K.E.H
http://www.keh.com/onlinestore/home.aspx
Well, cameras are important... :?

D.L.L. dll, as has already been stated is an extension:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_link_library
"DLL, is Microsoft's implementation of the shared library concept in the Microsoft Windows and OS/2 operating systems. These libraries usually have the file extension DLL, OCX (for libraries containing ActiveX controls), or DRV (for legacy system drivers"

G.T.K was already called too:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTK+

D.M.A Direct memory access?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_memory_access

M.B.C:  uh oh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBC
Also found http://www.molbiolcell.org/ when searching for MBC

T.C.M.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditiona ... e_medicine

J.C.N.
This one was a struggle. Here are some useless links
http://www-jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk/jcn/
http://www.japancorp.net/
http://www.jcn.or.kr/home/journal/
I'll, uhm... look into that some more.

F.S.H.

D.T.A.
http://www.dta.it/ more carema stuff.

N.T.K.
http://www.ntktech.com/ best I could find for that one... this is painful.

S.N.A.
Of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systems_Ne ... chitecture

M.H.E. "Multiple Hereditary Exostoses?"
http://www.mhecoalition.com/

I.E.N
http://www.ienonline.com/ or
http://www.ienearth.org/ ?

A.S.N.

C.R.H.
http://www.crh.ie/

S.B.E.
http://www.sbe.org/

OK, so... several technology and biology links and some media-based stuff. Also, I have no idea what I am doing. It's 4am and these are probably people's initials or something.

Man, you are awesome, even if that doesn't go anywhere.

We need to explore every angle, no matter how out there: who knows what will begin to connect together?

(and besides which, it's fun! )

so is there a reason why we are looking for hidden meanings behind the initials??

I really don't think we are going to find that much hidden meanings.

They are simply initials of names that are in an orginization (what i'm assuming) that studies the order. They are the names that helped compile the information in the manuscript that daniel is holding, the one that Jonas' father wrote.

I really don't think you are going to find much other then (possible) future character names.

Lumi, I hate to rain on your parade, but what you did with the reverse translator doesn't really make sense. The output, rather than amino acids, is actually nucleotides (it doesn't look like a normal DNA sequence, because many of the letters represent a combination of possibilities of nucleotides at that position...for example, N means that it could be A, C, G or T).

But, more importantly, the original sequence doesn't seem to be an amino acid sequence, as it has letters (B, O, J) that don't correspond with the 20-letter alphabet for conventional amino acids.

Glad to see that FacilityJ has invaded your thoughts, though!

GTK as in The Gimp Toolkit

DMA could mean the Digital Media Access card, or as in computer memory such as Direct Memory Access

Anyway, this might be a start.
I'm no tech expert but I think we should keep in mind how old this document must be and while DLL files may have been around back then a lot of tech that we take for granted, like Gimp, may not have been.

Indeed, it looks like it's written with a typewriter, which would most likely put it at latest in the 1980s, maybe the early 1990s. Jonas was born in 1987, so most likely the ms is from the 1970s/80s (unless Jonas's parents were quite old when he was born, or they were having teen angst adventures of their own, which could push it back to the 1960s).
