I don't really have anything else to add at the moment, but if I think of something, I'll toss it in. Unless VF or HyeMew's got something else to say, this may have ran its course.Kimmy wrote:This show began with such promise and has degenerated due too much input from fans. Must it happen this way? Storytelling has centuries of excellence to cull from, you gentlement are providing excellent arguments to egg on our creators and I beg you not cease until they change their easy solutions to finer choices.
I appreciate that you called our arguments excellent, though.
To be fair, I'd say only about half of Tolkien's stuff was meant for children. "The Silmarillion" and LoTR were supposed to be accessible to most anyone, but they were also meant to be far darker than "The Hobbit" or "Roverandom."Kimmy wrote:We need to think larger, ask for more, and not just for mid level drama , like Tolkien. (Seriously. If we are going to speak of great drama we must think larger than an entertaining children's book that adults enjoy as a morality tale! Someone mentioned Homer, and I don't want to play favorites, but I'd start with Milton.) Tolkien also has been Done to Death.
I agree, though, that Tolkien's been done to death. It's still nice to see when somebody can do something fun with it, but that style has really lost a lot of its charm for me over the years (I still love LoTR, though; it's just all the immitators that rub raw my appreciation for the genre).
That's definitely the truth. I remember telling them that several months ago when it looked like things were going nowhere. It may actually be that this is what they've envisioned and they aren't just trying to play it safe.Kimmy wrote:I want this show to suceed. I want very much for it to be completely beautiful in its own way. All that's needed is belief in their own vision and commitment to their own choices to suceed.
If it is, I'd rather they stick with their vision than try to change things up too much.
As I've said, I think there's more they could do, but I really like how the story's being written these days. I feel like they've come a long way and we don't compliment them quite as much as they deserve.
I say this, but, of course, the next time they have a plot development I don't like, you can all probably expect to see me bitching. That's how it goes, though. We're a fickle bunch, and I'm probably no exception.
