It's so good to know he is physically OK, Loretta. I am so relieved for you and you family (and myself). Sorry he has been so traumatized, though. Only time will heal this. Please tell him that many are thinking about you all at this terrible time for you and your family.JustAnotherLonelyGirl. wrote:Hey everyone - sorry I haven't updated today - I was kind of busy.
It turns out that my cousin is okay - physically. We were all excited to hear that.
Unfortunately, he hasn't been doing so great emotionally. One of his teachers and four of his best friends were killed. They didn't even know the boy who shot them. He won't talk to anyone right now except another friend of his from school who was also in his group of friends.
It hasn't been an easy two days for my family and me, and I want you all to know how much it means to me that you kept my cousin in your thoughts and prayers. I'm not a religious person myself, but I am so grateful that you did all you could to help my family.
btw, of course, I don't mind if anyone calls me Loretta.
He is back at home now, I assume.
You can call me Juli or LLP, whichever suits your fancy.

Loretta,
I saw your post and skimmed down the first few words to see that he was alive, and then stopped holding my breath.
SOOOOO good to hear he's alive and not injured. As far as his emotional state goes. I would think it abnormal if he didnt react to this.
Time is what you all need.
(Massive Hugs)
xoxo

It's great to hear from you, Loretta. I feel so much better knowing that your cousin is okay.
I hope that everything works out for him. He probably just needs time and love to recover from what has happened. Your family is in my thoughts.

I have a lot to say but I think I'll stick with one important point:
Do not believe everything you hear. There are so many police on that campus, you have no idea. I have never seen any school with such an organized police force. B/c the town is pretty much centered around VT, and b/c the campus is so big, they don't have what you normally would think of when referring to campus police, but instead they have an actual police department type of thing. Trust me, I lived in Blacksburg one summer, have been to VT a hundred times, and there is NO shortage of police. They are everywhere on and around that campus.

Thanks Juli, voyboy, consideration, kelly, kelly(lol), luminous, and everyone else who has talked to me today or yesterday. madd hugs to all!
Juli, you are right that he is at home now. I'm probably going to miss school tomorrow to go visit him and his family. I feel awful that he has to go through this. I'll try to talk to him and let him know how much people really care. You have all been amazing, thank you so much.

I never watch the news or really any TV for that matter either, so I hadn't heard about this til today. I've been a mess all night. I guess I don't take these kind of things well. All I can do is cry, and cry and cry. God Bless those families. For those who believe, I pray that they find strength and trust in the Lord and turn their pain to him. I'm thinking of everyone...those lost, those who lost, their friends, families, and everyone who has a broken heart because of this. I pray that those who were wounded will be healed. Oh, why do things like this happen? This is so horrible.
I gotta go... I can barely see the computer screen. Your all in my thoughts and prayers too.

Normally I wouldn't promote missing a day of school, but in this case I think it's a good idea (and probably necessary), Loretta. He needs to feel loved and supported at this time.JustAnotherLonelyGirl. wrote:Juli, you are right that he is at home now. I'm probably going to miss school tomorrow to go visit him and his family. I didn't come across this thread till just now, I am glad your cousin in OK Loretta. It's very sad to hear that your family was so close to this tragedy.
We had a similar but much smaller incident here in Seattle about a year ago, where some troubled young person, shot up a Rave after party, killing six teens before killing himself.
If this latest incident doesn't cause people to rethink gun laws in this country, I don't know what will. Every nut case can go out and buy deadly weapons with hardly a question, and not just one, this guy bought one last month and then a second this month, Virginia apparently has a gun a month policy. It is crazy if you ask me.

Oh, sweetie. I'm so sorry for your cousin.JustAnotherLonelyGirl. wrote:Unfortunately, he hasn't been doing so great emotionally. One of his teachers and four of his best friends were killed. From what my own family experienced (losing a close friend on 9/11), I know it's going to be a hard road for him. But he's lucky he's got you and the rest of your family to support him.
And we'll keep doing everything we can.JustAnotherLonelyGirl. wrote:It hasn't been an easy two days for my family and me, and I want you all to know how much it means to me that you kept my cousin in your thoughts and prayers. I'm not a religious person either, but I've been thinking of you, and will continue to do so and to send you good energy and loads and loads of hugs.
If you need to talk about any of this, feel free to PM. And I'm sure your cousin will have professional support right there at VT, but if you think it might be helpful for him to talk to my niece and her husband (who lost their best friend on 9/11), let me know and I'll get you their contact info.
