MY QUESTION AGAIN:

If this is a "pseudo-religion," then why are they hell-bent on getting her to do a PRIVATE ceremony?

My guess would be that "the ceremony" is not just like recieving your first communion or a bat mitzvah. It may be illegal or it may be something else entirely. OR maybe the ritual only allows certain people at it... oh man there are too many possibilities.

It's probably not even a religious ceremony at all.
