Hi Creators,
If this topic has been posted already, apologies to all. However, Jules sucks. I think that she's pissing off at least half of the posters.
Please, oh please don't let her be The Girl, or if she is, kill her off early on (although as I've posted elsewhere, I'm not sure if this would make The Order villians or heroes).
ETA: Can't figure out how to add other options to the poll, if possible. The poll isn't meant to be anything other that ridiculous (I don't particularly want to see Jules die; even a fictional 12-year-old deserves a chance).
So if you've got other feelings about the character (ambivalent, like her somewhat, dislike her but want her to stay, whatever), please post them here as well.
Edit the Second: Please keep it to your thoughts on the character, not the actress.

I'd suggest people show patience. It's very difficult to introduce a new character, so if Jules is canon (and I have no confirmation either way), this is how they're trying to do it. But there's no indication she'll take the place of Bree (quite the contrary) or even play a role as big as Gemma.
If she becomes canon and her videos are required viewing, the Creators will let us know, and her vids will be incorporated into the main page. For now, it is not required viewing but part of the mystery. Perhaps she'll just be a tangential character who will do the ceremony? Perhaps she's a red herring...
Either way, I encourage folks to be a little nicer. It's fine if you don't like her or her videos, but saying "she sucks" or "I hate her" or many of the other things we've seen in the "New Girl" forum are pretty hurtful.

I just don't care for her character. I don't feel that me being honest is being mean. There are others who have made videos that I would prefer. Just being honest.

Why do we always have to be "nice"? It drives me insane. Saying she sucks is like saying Forrest Gump sucks. Who cares?!! If we think Forrest Gump sucks..or any other fitional character, why shouldn't we say so? If shes canon or not, she's putting her "work" out into the world and no matter what, someone will always think something sucks. We don't all like the same things. And how could anyone be under the dillusion that a tween white girl with a mouth full of braces rapping would be received with open arms by 99% of the population? Come on.
Oh, PS: I hate her

Being honest - saying you don't care for the character - is great, Kas. It's folks saying they think the person (rather than the character) is ugly, stupid, etc. that's probably not a good thing.
I've always felt that if something someone says isn't something you could tell your grandmother (or your grandma's dog ), it's probably not something you'd want to say online. You wouldn't probably want to tell your grandma she's ugly. You could say that a character that she's playing in a play isn't a character that you particularly like because, after all, there are characters that are just made to be unlikable! <nodding happily> Telling her SHE was nasty and mean might make her cry...telling her the same about her CHARACTER would please her no end, because she'd know she was doing a perfect job of acting...
I played this character in a play once that was a witch with a capital B...and I, of course, am sweetness and light and just all around candy-coated kindness... You can imagine what would make me feel which... Uh, English. I know I can still speak English...sorta...

Yeah, what Cher said. There's nothing wrong with saying you don't like her or you don't like watching her videos. My message wasn't directed at your post. My point was that folks can express their opinions without being harsh and cruel.Kasdeja wrote:I just don't care for her character. I don't feel that me being honest is being mean. Truth is, most of these videos (and perhaps all of them) are made by fans. If you are cruel and harsh, the fan would surely be offended and likely not bother making more videos. That may be what you or another person wants - no more videos. But this person was trying to have fun and contribute, and others appreciate them. As I said, you can express your opinion without being cruel and harsh. Well, most folks can.
I have reviewed music for various publications for nearly 10 years now, and my policy has always been to be constructive and not cruel if I don't like something. People put a lot of time and effort into it, and to be honest, someone reading a review doesn't care that the writer loathed it to his very core and wanted to vomit on the CD and the guitarist's mother (I have read reviews like that). By being honest and constructive, even if you don't like it, you give other people an idea of what to expect and you accomplish your goal: getting people to understand your point.
The folks who rip things apart with great vitriol? To be honest, those folks don't get read (except, perhaps, for humor), and their opinions are not respected.

"Because we're a society"? Are you high? My point is that this girl is a fictional character, not a real person. The girl who is pretending to be her is the real person. When I and, I'd assume, other people say they hate her, they're talking about the character. And reviewing music, while I understand your point, is not really the same as talking about a character in a fictional video blog. It's like saying "I hate Ross" (from Friends...which I do). That's not an attack on David Whateverhisnameis. You must live in a different society than me. Actually, I'm pretty sure we're not even from the same galaxy, but that's another story.
Might I add that I'm quite familiar with the concept of constructive criticism having sat through hundreds of critiques in art school for..oh let's see.. 10 years. Being nice is fine and dandy, but when it's fake, which it so often is, you can see right through it and it really takes a lot of effort and most often doesn't really spare anyone's feelings anyway. If people would just say things like "You're full of shit" or "You realy didn't get that point across"...they'd, in essence, be saying the same thing it took 10 minutes of BSing to say and the person being critiqued would most likely not feel any worse or better either way. You don't put something out there expecting everyone to fall in love with it or you (especially if I'm sitting in on the critique..or anyone remotely like me. And let's face it, there are people far more harsh than I)...and if you do, you most likely won't do it again. I don't think there's anything wrong or bad about that. It's called life.

I agree with the majority. She isn't all that interesting, and she really can't act. I know that it sometimes takes a while for people to warm up to new characters...but...
For the role of Bree, they auditioned people, and found a decent actress who could convince people that she was just a young, bored girl. This one...she seems to have been either chosen due to her relation to someone involved in the project, or at complete random. She can't act. Period.
I'm bothered by her too, I don't like her, and I hope she just fades away. I mean, far more interesting characters have been unceremoniously disposed of...why not Jules?

If a character is being incorporated into the show, I would like to believe that The Creators would prepare the actress. They should tell her "Hey, in case you haven't noticed, there are many haters out there. Be ready." They have the experience themselves. It should be shared with newcomers.
If a fan is just submitting videos, then they have had no such preparation.
Having received mention repeatedly directly by Bree, I would hope that the actress portraying Jules has had the appropriate preparation for the possibility of a harsh reaction.
Even so, she still isn't canon yet. She technically is merely a fan contributor. She deserves the same respect that any other contributor receives at this forum.

That response is confounding. I think most people would rather live in a society where people respected each other and were not intentionally cruel. I'm sorry you disagree, but I hope you're in the minority.spaciegirlreturn wrote:"Because we're a society"? Are you high?
My point was that you can be honest and express your opinion without being obnoxious, cruel, or hurtful. Even non-constructive criticism can avoid being those things.spaciegirlreturn wrote:Might I add that I'm quite familiar with the concept of constructive criticism having sat through hundreds of critiques in art school for..oh let's see.. 10 years. I understand that people are expressing their opinion about a creation and not the person herself. However, many of the cruel remarks being expressed reflect on the person, and that's uncalled for. (ie "she's a piece of sh*t and I hope she dies" as read one post that was quickly deleted)

I'm gonna choose to believe you are, in fact, high.
It's not about being intentionally cruel neccessarily..or going out of your way to destroy someone. It's about being blunt and honest. Sometimes people get hurt by honesty. That's a side effect and is not a reason to be fake or go out of your way to be nice. I'm speaking for myself here, obviously. Also, I think people assign too much importance to words and take things too literaly. That's not an excuse to tell someone you hope they die, but really..do you think people actually mean things like that when they say them? I'd assume not.
I'd also like to say that it is my opinion that being honest with someone is actually far more respectful than being "nice"..even if you hurt them. Apparently you value etiquette and social niceties more than unconditional honesty. I hope you are in the minority.

Yes the character is annoying. But the doesn't mean the girl who plays her is.
Critsism is fine, but it should be constructive I think.
well, i wouldn't say she ISN'T canon, she's just not confirmed canon yet. there's a tension here between "being nice" and deluding the creators into believing everyone loves her. they need feedback. i do feel bad about some of the stuff i've read about jules, because the actress is GOING to take it personally. don't think Jackie and Jackson didn't.ApotheosisAZ wrote:Even so, she still isn't canon yet.
