Because it was a balcony in california, yes it is NOT out of the ordinary to have found it unlocked. I know we used to leave ours unlocked sometimes, especially when it was nice and we wanted to leave the door upen a bit. (which looked like it could have been the case. door open screen closed.)

I was glad, glad, glad Daniel gave some sense of what he, the character, saw as Bree's stilted mien in her last video. I'm always wondering if we read her demeanor wrongly because Jessica's not acting well (as in "professionally," not as in "health-wise"). So we can take it to the bank that Bree was giving a "forced" monologue, that she wasn't behaving naturally.
