Character Naming Patterns
Ok, there have been alot of theories that the characters on LG15 were named after biblical characters. I dismissed this because Bree, Lucy, Taylor, Gemma etc... are NOT biblical (unless you count Bree as being short for Gabriel, which I think is a stretch.) BUT, I do think there is a method to the madness. Anyone have theories about character naming they'd like to share?
I dunno . . . I kinda think they just picked names that reflected their personalities. Bree is pretty unusual, and I've always wondered if it was short for something, but it somehow fits (Bree the brain-iack). It's sort of a trendy name right now, I think.
Daniel and Sarah are both more classic names. Both characters are a little bit sadder than their counterparts -- not old-fashioned exacty, but kind of slow to act. Not a lot of energy and kind of resitant to things.
Jonas is not a new name, but it's a little less common and kinda trendy for an unusual and appealing guy.
Taylor, I think has only been popular in the past 20 years or so. For me, it is the quintessential name for a high school girl. Also, it was originally a sirname (like Zachary Taylor) so it's not too feminine -- Taylor is a bit of a tomboy (or at least she seemed like it at first).
Much was made of Gemma and Jules both being variations on a theme. . . . that's my two cents.

Rosencrantz: Another curious scientific phenomenon is the fact that the fingernails grow after death, as does the beard.
Guildenstern: What?
Rosencrantz: Beard. . . The toenails, on the other hand, never grow at all.

Hmmm.... Jonas in the bible, there's like a reference to the ocean. And his parents dissapeard at the ocean.
Taylor is sometimes a boys name, and she is kinda a tomboy (?)
Alex could mean no law. -> A meaning not in greek and lex meaning law in latin
Lucy could mean Lucifer

Lucy is actually a saint name. She is the patron saint of blindness.
You could also that Taylor's name is derived from tailor which comes from the Latin "taliare," meaning "to cut."

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."

I actually mailed Bree on YouTube long long ago to ask her if Bree was short for anything, and she said she didn't think so, but that she would ask the creators about it. But anyway, If Bree was short for something, it could be one of the following:
Brittney Britta Britty
Brianna Breana Breanne
Gabriel Gabriella
or Briana... My name.. haha. I go by Bri though

From babynames.com and babynamesworld.com:
Bree = form of Brie, which means from Brie, France. Brie is a type of cheese, The Exalted One.
Daniel = God is my Judge
Jonas = Dove
Sarah = Princess
Taylor = Tailor
Julia = Downy, Down-bearded youth
Lucy = Light
Sonia = Wisdom
Carl = Manly, Man
Drew = Manly, Man, Warrior
Isaac = He will Laugh
Spencer = Steward
Gemma = Precious Stone, Jewel
Claudia = Lame, Disabled

If Bree is short for Briana, then it would mean Strength in gaelic.truncatedslinky wrote:That would explain the sunglasses.giddeanx wrote:Lucy is actually a saint name. She is the patron saint of blindness.

I wonder if they're street name inspired...Ixlikexchalk wrote:Ok, there have been alot of theories that the characters on LG15 were named after biblical characters. hehe I LOLed my arse off at Bree's response. It makes her sound like someone's project or experiment (ya, I kno she kinda is, but it still sounds funny)kellylen wrote:lmfaooooSami wrote:lmao, Bree said that?Breeze wrote:I actually mailed Bree on YouTube long long ago to ask her if Bree was short for anything, and she said she didn't think so, but that she would ask the creators about it.
