What difference does it make? Don't get upset about an accent, of all things!kwicherbichen wrote: AMERICANS TRYING TO FAKE AN ENGLISH ACCENT DO NOT SOUND LIKE THAT.

Yeah, I seriously do not understand all the angst over the accent. So Jackie's not the best at doing accents. Big deal. Plenty of other actors who are far, far more well-known (and undoubtedly make far more moolah for their work) are lousy at imitating accents. Let's move on to something that's relevant to the storyline.

its an easy thing to pick up on, while some of the other things we analyze are more complex...

Here's yet another "Who gives a shit!".
I shall only give one SINGLE shit if it has anything to do with her character other than the fact that she lives in London.
Remember: the actress might have been picked because of her accent, assuming it's natural and no put on.
IMHO, her accent is a lot like mine. International. South London with an Australian/NZ twang (listen to the way she says "hope" and a bit of American the actress probably picked up from living there.
OR the actress is American and just doesn't know what a thick English accent sounds like. If so, here's a tip: LISTEN TO ACTUAL PEOPLE WITH A LONDON ACCENT. But she's not doing a really bad job of it.
........But yeah.. I don't give a shit

"Have you ever transcended space and time?"
"Yes. No. Uh, time not space. No. I don't know what you're talking about."

It sound to me like a struggling English accent, she really has trouble with the to's and the you's. Who ever said she was South African? I'm an actress myself, and I have to say that Australian and South African accents are by FAR the hardest to duplicate.

It's not South African. The a's in South African are very distinct. She may, however, be attempting a S.A. accent. The hardest accent for an American to imitate is South African, and the next hardest is Australian.
I know some of you don't care, but I find it interesting since I am an actress. Also, it may help us learn about her character's background. Maybe she is supposed to sound like she has a terrible SA accent because she lied about ever living there? Lighten up, and let people have a discussion.

Well since we all know she's an actress, since she plays Gemma, we can assume she might've taken acting classes. There's a lot of speech therapists that will either try to get rid of your accent (usually southern drawls for commercial work) or teach you a new one.
Personally, I never knew Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) was british. He totally fooled me with his American accent!
