Exclusivity of the Chats
I'd like comment that, if you look at the forum, there are more people playing this game than the clique that has formed in the chats.
For various reasons, some of us simply can not sit at the computer all day or night and chat.
However, this does not mean that we are not playing the game in our own way.
I for one like to keep chats open while I am caring for my 2 year old and running my business, then, during my "breaks", I read over what has been said. This has been the only way that I have found out certain things, since the forum is not being used by many, in my opinion, to share what they know (ie transcripts of phone calls, PMs from OpAphid, Tachyon, etc.).
The indiscriminately "kicking" of players from the chats simply because they are not chatting or some players don't like their name is ridiculous.
In the words of OpAphid in an email reply to me today regarding this...
All shall be revealed. Time moves forward.
Those who do not share will not be chosen for such rewards in the future...
Let the flaming begin.

I agree.
I fully concur.
In my case, I probably deserved to get banned from the chat. I said some things that weren't constructive. The icing on the cake was when I refered to Chessboard as "dude."
Then again, perhaps some of us don't need a second chance. I certainly hope you get one, sphinx.

Which side am I on? Even horcruxes can't tell...
Re: Exclusivity of the Chats
The forum and the chat are both for different things. The chat is a free-flowing exchange of random ideas, trying to figure the clues out. Once a solid theory is found, its posted on the forums and expanded. There are specific areas that have been created for emails from Op and Tach, and people are sharing those (when they are allowed to by Op). The phone calls were kept secret per OpAphid's instructions, and are now also out in the open. I don't believe that anyone is intentionally keeping info from the forums, especially since once you leave the chat the info is lost.sphinx wrote:This has been the only way that I have found out certain things, since the forum is not being used by many, in my opinion, to share what they know (ie transcripts of phone calls, PMs from OpAphid, Tachyon, etc.).

As for the moderating of the chat, I have no idea.
Just my 2 cents.

Uh, guys?
I hate to break it to you, but the chat usually goes something like this:
SadPanda: ::dances:
Chess: ::Talks about how great her hair is::
Raven: ::Yells at everyone for being off topic, -v Chess and Panda::
.... Repeat ad infinitum.
If the forum's dead, guess what? It means we're plum out of ideas. If we get anything good, we almost always post to the forum (even if its just a transcript)
.... I promise, you're not missing anything ground breaking.

SP pretty much summed it up. Heres my HIGHLY DETAILED*, step-by-step explanation on how the chat goes:
1) We start off talking about OpAphid.
2) We then begin to stray off topic.
3) A few moments later, we're having a full-out, off topic debate.
4) About 5 minutes later, we realize we're off topic.
5) Following this, we are yelled at by Raven.
6) So, we start talking about OpAphid again.
7) Repeat steps 1-6.
*I realize that this is, in fact, not highly detailed at all. Spare yourself the time of pointing that out. :]

Here's my two cents on the chat v. forums debate:
When CiW was the story of choice, the forums were alive and kicking. It seemed like everyone who had any kind of idea at all posted there, and it was almost as hard to keep up with the new forum posts as is to keep up with the chats. Now that OpA is the popular story, almost all the work is being done in the forums. I'm not sure why that is exactly, but I think it has something to do with the way the games are being run (anagrams are easier to solve when you have time to think about each post?). Anyhow, I'm on the chat quite a bit now, and I'll definitely be reminding everyone to post on the forums, even if their theories aren't perfect or confirmed by OpA. I want to apologize on behalf of the entire chat for not updating the forums enough. We don't mean to exclude people, and we really do put everything definitive up on the forums eventually...we'll try to do better.
