Episode 0079 Survival Skills [11/20/06]

I'm out. This is too much reading. I kept up with the Tachyon's vids and OpAphid, but missed the brother's and apparently that is where most of the juice lies.
But it's not just this. A mod actually editted one of my posts; I'm throughly pissed about it. Go to "Canon and Non-Canon Characters" in the plot discussion board, and you will see that hyemew actually edited my post when she quoted it in her own. This is outrageous, and I hope everyone abandons ship.

Awakening from the slumber.
Check YouTube. I think I saw a video on the Director's Video sidebar thing that was the creators of LG15 on Nightline. I didn't watch it, so I'm not positive, but I think it's what you are looking for.Virginia wrote:Actually I was really disapointed to miss it, but I had to work early the next day. Is there any way to see it online?iqfrenzy wrote:If you viewed the "nightline" interview with the creators, they said that storylines they had been working on for a long time were coming to fruition. I, for one, think this has been a long time in the planning. I have thought from day one of OpAphid that it was canon, and I never waivered.Virginia wrote:I'm beginning to feel like the creators need to do just that: create. If they continue to rely so heavily on fan opinions, the story will continue to stall because they are too worried about keeping everyone happy. To put little bits and pieces in from fan ideas is nice (the cookies back in the beginning), but to throw in whole sub stories and change the entire feel and plot due to fan ideas is over the top and the main reason the series is dragging.iqfrenzy wrote:Why is everyone saying they won't stay around if OpAphid is a part of the series? I think the story needed a twist and new characters, as it was dragging. It's not too much to ask to watch a few 3 minute (tops, some are just seconds) vids to get the background; no one said you had to explore every little thing about them, like we do Bree's and Daniel's vids. This is a picker-upper, IMO.
I think they should get back to what they were doing in the meantime, and stick to some sort of predetermined plot. It seems lately that they have abandoned that idea completley.
Just my opinion, of course. Maybe this is all a predetermined script, but it sure doesn't feel like it.
I'm on the fence.
On one hand, I think everyone who put soooo much into OpAphid and Tachyon deserve kudos for keeping up...turns out, their passion for all things LG15 paid off. So, good for you guys/gals.
On the other hand,... the regular story doesn't move fast enough as it is. Bree, Daniel, and -now- Gemma, aren't exactly keeping this going at an entertaining pace. I fear that the addition of more characters will only reslut in this just drawing out into more time than I'm willing to invest. It started out fun and intriguing...and, yeah, there were clues to be researched and speculated on. But, the story was always enough to keep me coming back. Eh'...now it seems to complicated. I'd rather see more Bree and Daniel than a bunch of side tracks.

Truth is, you could subscribe to OpAphid and Tachyon's YouTube accounts and catch up on the videos in less than a half hour. All the converstation on the forums would take much longer, but you could read the summary information in the new Prologue section of the forums in a relatively short time. http://lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=85chanda wrote:Ok I already know I'm gonna get yelled at for this....but I am so PO'd! I have never watched the OpAphid videos I didn't watch Cassie's and I haven't watched any others but Nikki's. They knocked down so many other spinoffs that I just didn't watch any. It would have been nice to have had a hint that this was going to be a part of the series. You can't really say that you don't have to know about OpAphid to watch bc then there would be no point of merging the stories unless they will be involved with each other. So anyways, I'll probably keep watching till I know for sure, but I just don't have time for all of this. Just these three charachter's were enough for me. I work and go to college full time, and I try to have a life. But I am happy for all those who have kept up with all the story lines. Have fun!
The creators have obviously realized that a lot of LG15 fans have not been following OpAphid and have given us a fairly painless way of catching up, so that should be plenty of information for those that want to follow the story but aren't into playing the game.

I just caught my gf up to speed, because she was curious now that it is canon. It was pretty painless... the main story is easy. The puzzles just lead you to added depth, like facts and backstory that wouldn't make sense in the current LG15 or OpAphid format. Better than random speculation, that's for sure!
Wow! I think you're being a tad touchy here. I've edited other peoples' comments to cut out information that wasn't necessary to understand my message. Unless he actually changed what you said, I think you're over-reacting.iqfrenzy wrote:I'm out. This is too much reading. All this brouhaha about the legitimizing of OpAphid is pretty predictable, I'd say. A change this unexpected always causes earthquakes in people's heads. Just wait--in a week, if you come back to read this thread, it'll make you think, "What was all the fuss about?"
Could somebody please hide money in *my* toys?

Dear Fans,
We want to clarify the connection between OpAphid and lonelygirl15. Simply put, OpAphid is supplemental material that adds to the lonelygirl15 experience. It is not required viewing. If you watch lonelygirl15, you will experience an engaging, compelling story, full of plot twists and character development. You will not be left out if you choose not to play the OpAphid game (the official ARG). If you choose to play the game, it will provide you with a much deeper experience and allow you to solve puzzles. We are trying to appeal to a broad swath of fans... both casual viewers, and hardcore gamers. We think we can do both. If you are not up to speed with OpAphid or ARG's, feel free to catch up in the forum.
Email any of us anytime with questions (Miles in particular is happy to talk at length about how cool OpAphid and the new site features are).
Enjoy!

Thank you Creators for providing an official clarification before too many people got the wrong idea. I don't understand how people can get some idea that the story has become ANY more complicated now...The Creators wrote:Dear Fans,

Suppose you have never heard of OpAphid before, and you don't read the LG15 forums, but you just watch the LG15 videos. This OpAphid comment from Bree would be fairly meaningless to you, and would continue to be so in the future. This is how it's meant to be. The reference to OpAphid was SIMPLY a symbolic nod to the fans who care that OpAphid is official. Nothing more. Now the OpAphid fans can cheer, and the LG15 fans can continue enjoying the LG15 vids regardless.
Use some logic/common sense, guys! The creators are pros, and wouldn't do anything so stupid as what many of you think...
Knowledge is just opinion that you trust enough to act upon.

Thanks for that clarification. I never played the ARG before and have no intentions of doing so now. I'm glad to have confirmation that it's not necessary. Like I said before, I will watch the videos, though, if only for the cool directing. The Creators wrote:Dear Fans,

I think this is pretty cool. The Creators always said they would be including their own ARG at some point (when CiW was discredited) and im glad that its finnally been confirmed. my only slight jibe is that I was able to follow CiW passively, living in the U.K iwas able to wake up on the morning and see the night's developments and it was all pretty easy to follow, which suited me as a former lurker extrordinaire, that doesn't seem as easy with OpAphid. I did start to follow it but when there was all this 'you cant divulge answers or secrets' stuff I stopped following as with the different timezones it was difficult to get involved with the puzzle solving.
Anyway I'm gonna do my best to catch up and hopefully see all the opaphid followers in thier forum in a couple of days

Yeah...well. I've been really interested in LG15 when I realized you were really creating, with talent, something new in entertainment. More than the story plot or the characters, it's this aspect of your project that really fascinated me. I don't need to explain, you know better than anyone else what I'm talking about. Falling into ARG doesn't bring anything to that. ARGs are old, done. Plus, there is nothing hypodiegetic in OpAphid we could consider a "mise en abyme" that would legitimate it in Bree's universe. OpAphid doesn't bring anything to the narrative, contrary to the multilayers narration (diegetic levels) you have been able to put out so far. I was into CiW, because i believed that was a nice and dark and scarry fanfic. But as far as I understand the story now, you fully participated in ruining it, leaving a lot of people on the roadside to promote your own ARG. Not really fair if you ask me. Anyway... I hope you realized that you achieved two things today: pissing off the LG15 fans (at least some of them), and pissing off the OpAphid fans (at least some of them). The Creators wrote:Dear Fans,

That been said, shall we continue to explore the videos to look for hints in the storyline or shall leave that to the OpaPhid crew? Where do we go from here if we don't want to get into the game? Do you plan on releasing "Lonelygir15, the board game" for christmas or can we still expect to get from you an innovative quality show standing by its own merit?

I've kinda kept tabs on what's going on with OpAphid, but didn't follow all the clues or solved any of the puzzles. Its honestly a lot of work to stay on top of everything that's going on. Every time I went to the forum, there were a million new posts and I just don't have the time to get involved right now. But I will continue to watch LG15 and just browse through the OpAphid stuff from time to time to see if anything important comes up.
Hopefully those of us who do not wish to backtrack through the mess of a forum that is OpAphid's will not have to thrash around in OpAphid puzzle solving here, in the LG15 videos area. If so, I'm out. If it had played out differently off the cusp of CiW that OpAphid was more than annoying vids with complicated puzzles that appeared to be mimicing Ciw, I may have followed OpAphid. As it is, I don't wish to and I certainly hope I can at least enjoy the LG15 area without having it forced upon me, as noted by creatatrons. However, I can see this becoming further muddled...and in the OpAhid area it's all complete nonsense and bickering. So, yeah, that helps me a lot. So, anyway...hopefully it will stay respectfully separated enough where those who wish to play can, and those who do not don't have to.
