New Chat Room

Post by starlady »

How to Use the New Chat
Step I:
Login at www.lonelygirl15.com
Step II:
Click the "MULTI-USER CHAT" button at the top-center of the page.
Step III:
Wait a few seconds for the chat to load.

The Chat is a Flash based application and will only fully function if you have Macromedia Flash Player v. 8 or a later version installed on your machine.

If you don't have Flash you can download it here:
Windows Users
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download ... kwaveFlash
Mac OS X
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download ... orm=MacOSX

Chat window consists of 3 main areas: users list, messages area and send a message area.

Users List
Users list displays current room users. You can sort users in ascending or descending alphabetical order or by the time they joined the room by clicking a relevant icon. Male and female chatters have different icons displayed next to their usernames. On a left click on a user name in the list user's menu will appear.

Messages area
Messages area displays chat messages. Each entry contains time, sender name, recipient (for private and personal messages) and message text. On the top of the message area there are 2 buttons: Chat Rooms and History. If you click Chat Rooms button, a rooms list window where you select the room you wish to join will appear. Clicking History button will allow to view chat history that you can copy to the clipboard. Send a message area

Here you can send a new chat message as well as use some of chat options. To send a message just type it into the message box and click "Send" button or just press enter on your keyboard. To insert smiles from a smiles library into your messages click smiles button and choose the one you wish to add. There are three messaging modes in Community Chat - a message to all users, Personal messages, and Private messages.

To send a message to all users, select All Users from "Send To" drop down list. To send a personal message, simply select the user from a Send To drop down list or left-click the user's name in the user list and click Send Personal or click the user's name in messages area. Your message will appear in the messages area with a mark [to username].

To send a private message to a certain user, you can select him from the Send To user drop down list and check Private checkbox on the right, or left-click the user's name in the main user list and click Send Private. This message will be visible only to you and the recipient.

If you select a certain user to send him a personal or a private message, you can choose to continue sending your messages to this user only by clicking the lock icon (on the left to "Send to" drop dawn list). If it's locked "Send to" and Private values will remain the same after the message has been sent.

To change the color of your username, click the color selector next to the smilies icon and select any color from the palette.

The clock icon next to color palette selector allows to hide/show message time that displays in the messages area. User status

The Chat supports Online, Away and Personal Only user modes. If Away mode is selected, an away icon will appear next to your name in the users list to notify other Chatters that you are not available at the moment. If you choose Personal Only mode, you will only see the messages sent to you personally (both personal and private).ImageImage

Three cheers!

I like it! It takes a little getting used to, but anything would. This has all the options we wanted and then some! Great job, guys! :) very clean and quick, and much better than userplane! :)

The only tiny problem I have here is that you have to log into the main page. I go directly to the forum, and really only go to the main page when I know a video is up. I wish there was a way to skip that step.

Honestly, though, that's such a tiny thing, it's really a non-issue. "Oh, man! You're telling me I have to open ANOTHER window and type in my name! Shit! I'm done here." LOL.

Looks good, though! Can't wait to try it out in a big chat with the characters!

Yeah, I noticed that. The forums have a link to "Multi-User Chat", but when I click it, it says I have to login. However, I already am logged in from the main page (and clicked "remember me" so I don't have to login every time).

Other things I noticed: changing the font color and font only seems to change it for me, not for the text everyone else sees. And it doesn't seem to remember those settings... Minor issues!

Hmmm, not sure why this is happening...

I accessed the chat room via the forum, and it told me to go log in or register. So I clicked on the link on that page to go and log in. The main page, however, says that I am logged in. I had to log out of the main page, close everything down, go back and sign in on the main page and access the chat via the main page to get in.

So far, even when I have hit the "remember me" button on the main page log in, I am unable to get into chat through the forum link. I can only access it from the mainpage link.

Once you get in there, it does look great, though!

There's a thread in Concerns/Complaints about the new chat. The Creators popped in and asked us to start a thread with issues, concerns, questions, etc. Please post any issues you have there. Thanks!

I've managed to fix that much.

A way to turn off the Dings you get when a message appears without muting the users on the microphones would make the service a lot better....
an example of this can be found at mingleville.com where they use the same chat engine.
Yes, I do play croquet with the queen actually. We all do here.

All you need to do is quit the chat.. empty your cache and then log back into chat. the dings are gone and you can hear mics just fine :)

This poll doesn't provide enough options. The option I would have chosen would be "Nothing particularly impresses me."

I get extremely annoyed at polls that force the responders to voice a positive opinion about the subject. This is one.
