He started getting moody toward Bree before abondoning his car, living in a warehouse, and eating out of a dumpster. It's been happening for a while. Originally he seemed to really care about her and even broke the law by breaking into an apartment to find out what really is going on. But when their room was torn apart he left Bree alone there. Everyone knows that if a place is torn apart to leave immediately because whoever did it is probably nearby. Who would leave someone in such a dangerous situation if they really cared about the other person more than the anger they feel?
People generally only see what they want to see but I do have some background in studying people's interactions and he is not being caring toward her as much lately. Maybe some of the diehard Daniel fans don't want to see it but he is definitely pulling back and becoming much more self-centered (in the sense that he cares more about what he wants/needs than what Bree wants/needs). I think he's actually been quite a jerk to her lately. I don't know how people can not see it.
I think he is totally devoted to Bree but he is frustrated because no matter how much he wants to help her, he can't if she won't let him. He has come up with suggestions and she shoots them ALL down but doesn't have a good idea herself except to trust a stranger, which is odd since she should know she can't even trust someone she does know (Lucy).

I agree with all you said here. It's also got to be frustrating for Daniel that Bree won't tell him everything she knows about the Order.
