Ms. D~ Jo, you're not excused. She's fine. She's bandaged. She's just trying to manipulate her way out of this assignment. The best you can do is to not enable her. We can both go and see her after class.

Ms. D~ I am not going to let him take the fall for her. Let's get back to class and away from the drama. Karina turned in an incredible assignment to me today. I'd love to share it with you, since Karina is not here to present it. Then, I will give everyone their new assignment and we will close class for this evening.

Ms. D~ I understand that everyone is shaken up and concerned. Jo is taking care of her. Please understand how I do not want to feed into what seems to be deliberate manipulation. I believe she is disturbed about something else, and I will make sure she receives psychiatric care as soon as we leave class.
