What about intelligence? As in, gathering intelligence about our enemies...eh?
If I spent as much time sleeping as I spend thinking about OpAphid...
I was thinking intelligence also...
see definition:
The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.
The faculty of thought and reason.
Superior powers of mind. See Synonyms at mind. An intelligent, incorporeal being, especially an angel.
I posted this in the old PM thread, but I think it should be here too.
I received this reply from OpA today that gives a hint, I guess, as to where the plot is going.
Also tells us that since there are variations, the I in APHID we are trying to guess would be one that is in OpA's acronym for dealing with an enemy, not Bree's dealing with a stranger.
I suspect that in OpA's version of the acronym, the I word will be a verb, since all of the others are...
...and now that OpA has said there are variations on OpAPHID, we might have more than one puzzle to solve here. And didn't Bree call OpAphid an anagram in her video?
(hopes desperately that Bree just misspoke)

I think it's fairly clear at this point that the APHID acronym has more than one solution. Bree and Gemma have been taught something simple and positive, designed for children (which is when they learned it, I would assume), whereas OpA's version is much more complex and demanding. To my mind, this indicates that there's a much more universal disassociation within the Order than we had previously imagined; even something so simple as an acronym has two faces. Anything Bree has presented as a harmless part of the Order seems to be suspect now, and could have another meaning. How about that summer camp?
On a side note: it looks like Gemma moved around a lot when she was a kid too. I wonder if the Order encourages its members to do a lot of moving for a reason?

I've been toying with the idea for a while...that there are two distinct opAPHID meanings, one for children and one for "insiders" which would keep the children complacent if/when they ever saw a reference to OpAPHID...it would be familiar to them, thus they wouldn't look into it. I guess now we know.
edit: Either way, they seem to have to do with the growth of the Order. Acknowledge their position of ignorance, and help initiate a dialogue (conversion). So the cute little kids get to help bring others in. The adult version seems much more in depth and, dare I say, more sinister?
Being a hero doesn't mean you succeed in saving the day. It just means you tried.

I'm not sure if I'd say they both have to do with the growth of the Order...OpA doesn't seem very, how shall I say, welcoming? But maybe with the Order's well-being? :)

I'm having a problem with all of this.
Three of the letters in APHID have been confirmed (i thought) by OpA. Now, Gemma comes on here and tells us it is something completely different than what we though (and were told).
I also have a problem with the fact that there hasn't been an OpA video in the past 3 weeks...
If you had just become an official part of LG15... you would have to expect more traffic on the youtube page... why not make a new video saying something, anything?
The children/adult version makes sense on some level, but I think it's over complicating it.
I guess it's my nature to be cynical... but I think we are either missing something, or jumping to some conclusion.
Why is youtube OpAphid still listed under unofficial fanfic on LG pedia when it became an official character on the forum within hours of Bree's video being posted?
I have to agree with Cabby.
Maybe OpAPHID isn't really official. That would explain why their videos aren't on this site like Gemma's are. And the acronym that's been figured out from Op's point of view doesn't even make sense as having anything to do with anything of importance. I mean Analysis, Protect, Hinder - how does that have anything to do with interacting with outsiders? I mean, the protect and hinder part maybe. But Analysis should really be Analyze if it's a directive of something to be done.
Unless D turns out to be something like DESTROY or DISMANTLE then maybe I'd be a little more convinced... but at this point the whole idea of a second OpAPHID term seems a little inane.
I mean, who cares if the kids don't get to know what the real OpAPHID means? This organization is obviously one that will kidnap your parents and follow you to the end of the earth if you don't do what they want... so I really don't see why they would find it necessary to placate an 8 year old with a fake acronym.
I think the fact that so many people have started following OpAPHID has inspired the creators to play along and either feed them information or plant the information from OpAPHID into the official videos.
I think that the double meaning is intentional. I think that (like many have said) the younger people...and the people on the outside undderstand the happier solution, where as those on the inside or the elders, know the true dark meaning behind it.
or something of those sorts.
