What?! NOW you tell me . . .
Hey, I didn't find out myself about the special powers conferred upon me by my "Y" chromosome until I was 18. Late bloomer, I suppose....

Still, I've been working on catching up since! :D

goblynn wrote:And what's with the "no boys allowed"? I assume Gemma's parents were grooming her for the ceremony, as well...so, does this mean girls of this community aren't allowed to be involved with boys until after they've passed the age of being selected? (Again--I thought this ceremony was supposed to be infrequent, so how would doing that make sense?)
Maybe it means they are never allowed to be involved with males (kind of like nuns?) except nuns choose to be nuns.
As for Gemma being a possible ceremony participant.....

1: Maybe they treat all the girls that way (not just chosen ones)? or

2: Gemma's parents might have wanted her to be in the ceremony Bree is supposed to be in (and were grooming her as such) but she wasn't "chosen"?

3: Bree could be wrong about how often they have the ceremony?

hmmm

i dont think its so much the boy factor that made her parents tell her to stay away. i think it was the fact he didnt "subscribe to their way of thinking". had it been a nice commune boy her parents probably would have thought it was cute and invited him over for dinner. :p

damn, could Gemma be any more jealous that she wasn't "chosen"?! :x I don't like her anymore. It's like she is telling Bree she has to participate, saying it isn't her decision to make, yet, Gemma made her own decision to be independent. So, why, would Gemma be defending the religion she questioned enough to move away from.

Its also possible that Gemma's videos are a plant by the Order to keep Bree submissive and fearful of what might happen if she refuses to go through with the ceremony. She may not be living 'independently' at all and still be very much a part of the community.

This is great! I'm so glad she is Canon!

Okay, so, Gemma tells Bree that it isn't her decision if she wants out of the ceremony or not. Its clear here by the two videos that Gemma is more mature than Bree, who seems a little childish. Gemma seems to know what the consequences of not performing the ceremony would be, as she warns Bree.

Maybe this is why Gemma's mother and Bree's mother stopped talking? They assumed more individual roles in their community and Bree's mother, whom is a great pilar to them all, did not approve.

This makes everything so more interesting =D

It sounds like Gemma left the religion...I wonder if her parents did as well? Not quite clear...

Yeah, this pretty much confirms everyone's fears, Bree isn't going to be able to quit the ceremony. I wonder if they will up and move or just totally have her abducted! That is scary!

I thought that the way that she was telling bree to do the ceremony sounded like she was still part of the religion. all of this, "it's not your decision to make" and seeming really jealous of Bree getting chosen for the ceremony.

I have to say Gemma is anoying. And she 'looks' like she is acting. Especially in that vide where she said that her parents said she could never see that boy she had a crush on again.

Anyway, Why say it's not your decision and then talk about how you knew you'd leave since you were a little girl. It's it's so bad tell her to run away, get away, go! If she is still in the religion but doing research (or work like Lucy) then why not just say It's not your decision, not "it's your decision". Way to be annoying and confusing, Jeesh

Well, it surprised me that this was canon. I assumed fanfic. Seems odd that she shifted so quickly from saying hi and telling funny stories to getting all serious about the ceremony. How do we know she knows so much about things? I mean, if Bree doesn't know anything, why would Gemma know anything more than what she was told? Maybe I missed things in my skimming.

I can't help but wonder, now that the creators have rolled another YouTube account into the story, if there are or may be others...hmmm.........

She said that she knew since she was young that she would leave the order, so I don't understand why she would be jealous.

For the record, I've got to disagree with people who say Jackie is a bad actress. Compared to Jessica Rose, she's a star.
