YAY!!!!!! A term I know...well, I only know it because my husband is an amateur astronomer and I tag along to his club meetings and star parties. What can I say? We're geeks.
For the non-scientific types...a really good example of parallax can be done right were you're sitting now, and you've probably done it many times in your life.
Look across the room and focus on an object in front of you. Your monitor will do. Now, close just one eye. While opening that one eye, close the other at the same time...all the while focusing on the object. It moved! It changed! Or did it?
The object didn't change at all, it just appeared to do so because you shifted the way you look at it. Or you didn't have "both eyes open".
It seems that it's time for a perspective shift, or we're going to get to see OpAPHID from somebody else's point of view.
Another really good way of understanding it is to think of some books or movies you may have experienced where the same story is seen through different characters in different sections rather than an omniscient viewpoint.

Me
Hi! I'm new, but an interesting thing I noticed...
I have a mac, and using the dictionary feature on my mac, the definition for parallax is:
the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions, e.g. from the viewfinder or lens of a camera
Don't know how interesting that is to everyone else, but I thought I'd share.

Parallax is also a very cool comic character.

The story was retconned but originally one of the lanterns went psycho and turned evil. The retcon was a retelling where the parallax parasite took over Hal and made him be evil. Semi-on topic I feel.
