i've seen phi's that were capped at the bottom and the top, especially in order to distibugish between captial and lower case As long as there's a line running thru it, it's good. It could also be a theta on its side....?PinkoLady wrote:Yeah, I amended that Alpha to Lamda--- but an Phi does not have a line at the bottom. The line going through it extends downwards, but that wouldn't make a difference if it was overlayed-- though it does look rounder like an Omicron.

I have no idea how relevant this is, but there is a round symbol like that in trail signs that can mean. "end of trail" or "gone home"
as here: http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/skills/b-p/signs.htm
It looks like the sun sign is a more relevant application here though...

also, it's not gamma's current design but it does look like the precusor glyph gimel, imo
edit: the consensus says otherwise, nm

Regardless of consensus though, if you look at "Corresponding Phoenician letter" column at the Gamma row, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabettigerlilylynn wrote:

"gimel" there looks exactly like what we're calling Lambda in that symbol, even if the gimel's wiki page has it a little different. In fact, the Lambda has both legs pointing further down-- the gimel actually looks a lot more like it, I hadn't noticed when I called it Lamda on the first page.
Also, I totally have your avatar in shirt form-- Threadless rocks my world.
