The Cassie mention was an extremely elegant handling of the enthusiastic CiW series and its spinoffs. The creators manage to both weave the CiW inventions (creepiness, "I'm watching") into canon while gently slamming the whole CiW set (by making their Cassie into a goofy prank caller with a mean streak).
I agree that this was just a matter of helping close the door for anyone still wondering if CiW is supposed to be taken literally. CiW no longer flows against canon but instead fits in as part of the story, so long as you take it as prank videos. (Sort of like, the fact that Gemma turns out to be in CA the whole time doesn't mean her "London" vids aren't canon - they just take on a different meaning. CiW's videos now fit the story.)
As for the "why Cassie and Bree stopped being friends," I think the two explanations can fit together. Suppose they start to become friends; after visiting Bree's house, Cassie lets on that the religion scares her; while she's there, though, and before she realizes the extent of the religion, she leads Bree on the pranking spree; the main reason Cassie splits is the religion, and Bree knows it, which is why she mentioned it earlier; however, Bree was also getting in trouble for the calls at about the same time, and so she doesn't exactly feel like she lost a great friend.
So in Bree's mind, the main reason they aren't friends is the religion thing (Which would make Bree feel bad and would be on her mind more), and the secondary reason is that Cassie got Bree in trouble, and so when Cassie pulled away, Bree didn't have much reason to pursue her and try to keep the friendship alive.
In other comments, I love the code stuff in this! I even dialed the dry cleaner (after it was cleared and declared "not scary"). re: the dad's message, did it sound sort of mechanical to you? Like it could be altered to hide his voice a bit? I suppose that wouldn't make sense, since the point is for Bree to know who it is, and he comes right out and says he's her dad.
All this adventure is making Sinus Headache: Day Three a little more bearable. Thanks for the fun!

Perhaps it's an homage. A nod back at video 100 to the fun we all had with ciw?wintermute wrote:To all those saying "This proves CiW isn't canon" I have one thing to ask: why use the name "Frank" then? Unless it's to mess with the CiW fans. If that's the case, I'm out.

Or perhaps it's a coincidence. Didn't she say Uncle Franklin, after all, not really Frank?

I don't think it's a possibility. Chartreuse is just joking. Back before February, Brother was supposed to be hanging out with Gemma as both he and she attempted to learn more about each other's activities. Op's operatives apparently then had his safehouse blown up. They didn't get him, but Tach and her crew had a body left in the rubble to let them think they did (no idea whose body it was or where they got it).Languorous Lass wrote:I don't know enough about Tachy or OpAp to know if this is a possibility, but if it is, that would be a total hoot.Chartreuse wrote:Haha, it's Brother! Brother is BREE'S DAD. Would that make Tachyon Bree's MOM? How's that for a plot twist...

That would be my guess.Broken Kid wrote:Perhaps it's an homage. Wonder if he's talking about . . . their house? I figure that the two of them used to discuss their favorite scientists there.
thats what he said"Bree, it's your father. If you're listening to this message, you managed to crack my code. Your mother and I are safe, and I need to talk to you alone. Confirm that you got this by sending me a secret message back. I'll meet you one week after that at the place where we used to talk about Simon and Jared Diamond. I know you're confused right now, but all will make sense once we talk. I'll see you soon, sweetie."

She also talks about Jared Diamond in the Vid "Tolstoy Principle." I can't see any clues in that video, however.
Bree's Dad said the place that they used to talk about diamond and Feynman. It seems to me as if the family is pretty isolated in their house and that they don't get out much. Maybe Bree's dad wants Bree to go home (also indicated by the title of the vid)

Yes, but why that name? They could (should) have used something else.Broken Kid wrote:Or perhaps it's a coincidence. Didn't she say Uncle Franklin, after all, not really Frank?

You heard Simon, I heard Feynman.iamcool wrote:thats what he said". . . I'll meet you one week after that at the place where we used to talk about Simon and Jared Diamond. . . "
Since Bree has talked about Feynman before, and since the other name her dad mentioned was an author's name, I'm figuring Feynman.
simon diamond?
the only simon diamond i could find was a wrestler

That sounds like it would make sense. As long as Cassie's not mentioned anymore, I'll accept that as the most likely explanation.random lurker wrote:As for the "why Cassie and Bree stopped being friends," I think the two explanations can fit together. Because CiW now seems like another Cassie prank. Instead of the phone she was using YouTube.Chartreuse wrote:The last time the Creators went crazy talking about Cassie in a video, opAphid went crazy using those soundclips. I don't think it's the end of Cassie. How would all of that say that CiW was bogus? I like her much better than itscassie.
And it's just like that type of girl to leave a bunch of people high and dry after we buy into her scary story!
It's no different than prank calls, it's a cry for attention.
It doesn't say that CiW is so much bogus as the Cassie that Bree knew would've done something like that to mess with people.
And since CiW ain't coming back, that might be the best closure we get on the subject.
But it also tells us Cassie in Bree's world could be any type of girl who just so happens to have an interest in dark things and is a little nuts.
