Whether they're trying to communicate something by the little subtleties, I don't know. Certainly the plot specific stuff is intentional, but stuff like when things were filmed? I really doubt it.

What really annoys me is the number of internet cafes that just keep popping up, or am I just not living where the action is? I doubt if I could even find one here in Baltimore. Maybe downtown.

Good question. Alone it might not be significant, but add it to the disappearance of his parents in the Hawaiian equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle and it might be.
