I tried but I don't have very good photo software, but to me it looks like the tiny picture we can't identify might be a ring or a marking on either the chalice or the hand holding it:

*squints* well... in that pic, you can easily make out some of the other letters.. the ones that are overlapping the poem which makes it harder to read. Is there no way to isolate the two layers of letters from one another?

I'm not image editing genius, but as far as I know you can't separate layers of a graphic once they've been merged. If you could, it would have come in mighty handy when we were trying to solve the poems
