The way I see it, "Bree" edits the gaps in her videos and that's why it's a bit like a movie in theatres (cutting from different angles). When I look at the shade from the trees when she says "you locked me out", it's different from when they switch seats. I'm assuming that she got into the car somewhere near her house, and he drove her to another location, where he gave her a driving prep talk, and then they switched. As for why they would include this locked door, I'm guessing it was just to convey normalcy, as you say. Or perhaps the locked door was not meant to be included, and the door just so happened to be locked, so the actors ad-libbed. Or, perhaps her hands were full, with the camera and maybe a purse, and she could open the handle but not reach in for the lock. Or maybe the unlocky gizmo (yeah, I have no knowledge about automobiles) is far down on the inside of the door... and she can't reach it. Either way, I don't think it should be read into too deeply.
