I thought that the way that she was telling bree to do the ceremony sounded like she was still part of the religion. all of this, "it's not your decision to make" and seeming really jealous of Bree getting chosen for the ceremony.
She said that she knew since she was young that she would leave the order, so I don't understand why she would be jealous.
I just thought that the look that she gave after saying 'i didn't get chosen to be in the ceremony like you did, betrayed a little bit of jealousy... i dont know maybe it was just bad acting

I didn't spot jealousy, just caution. It seems to me like she's in a way warning Bree...but they hadn't talked at all in how many years? Doesn't suprise me that she's going the more apprehensive approach...Gemma seems to know more about the dangers, so she just seems guarded to me.

I don't read it as jealous but rather bitter. She had to go through all that isolation and grooming so seemingly no reason. That'd piss me off to.
Leaving the religion put her at odds with many, including her parents, I'm sure. Had she been part of something so important (and secret) it would have been something her parents would have been proud of. Gemma may not know what the ceremony is. In fact, Gemma may simply see the religion as oppressive and nothing more sinister than that.
Pleanty of Amish kids leave thier communities and never really look back. Not because the Amish are evil, just restrictive in ways the lapsed members dislike (see also; lapsed Catholics). /opinion YMMV

Also, I don't think Jackie is a bad actress, but I think the script/wording included some vocab and phrases that you wouldn't really use in everyday conversation, only when writing. It made it sound quite unnatural and rehearsed, but I don't think it had anything to do with her acting ability.

Woah I left angry last night that "hi Gemma" wasn't out yet and I wake up and there are two vids.
Anyway, now it really sounds like Bree has been chosen to do the ceremony from birth. It sounds like the whole religion to a certain extent revolves around her doing the ceremony, and they'll stop at nothing to have it completed. I think that the order chose Gemma to talk Bree out of changing her mind, because she has some background with Bree. I don't know maybe it's just me. I knew she was cannon!!!

Why would they choose her for that if she has left the religion?

Yeah, Gemma seems a bit suspicious. Not like she's Bree friend, just her dog. If Gemma's still in that religion, I think she may just be a ploy to slowly lure Bree back into doing the ceremony. I mean, she seems okay, so Bree will start thinking she will be alright too?

Am I the only one that heard her say she knew she'd leave the religion since she was a little girl?????

Yes but she could be telling lies.
Seeing as she hasn't seen Bree for years she might be pretending she has left.

I guess I just have a different reaction to her...she seems like she's trying to reach out to Bree. But she knows the "dangers" of the religion...and she also knows that if she goes into too great detail, Bree might not listen. She's only just now starting to doubt things. I dunno, I saw more caution I guess...and a definite disdain for the religion.

Gemma said since she was a little girl she knew she was going to leave the community, because she always had "misgivings" about that place, but She could still be following the religion.

I don't like her anymore. It's like she is telling Bree she has to participate, saying it isn't her decision to make, yet, Gemma made her own decision to be independent. So, why, would Gemma be defending the religion she questioned enough to move away from.
I definitely saw some claws when she talked and Bree being chosen and not her........CAT FIGHT!
