I was lucky, our band and choir teacher were married...and between the two of them they could play every instrument. They encouraged us to learn everything we could.

I'm trying to remember what Requiem we played my senior year.... that was definitely my favorite piece ever, but I am totally blanking on the composer or exact title....

Right now I've got an interesting production of Le Nozze di Figaro from Netflix at home, and I purchased the Karajian DVD of Don Giovanni with Sam Ramey in the title role, but as far as exposure to opera I haven't much. I did, once upon a time. These days, it takes forever. My Spanish has gone down the poopchute, clogged the pipes, and stuck to my French.

I call the mixture Franish. It ain't pretty.

Heh heh, something very similar has happened to my command of portuguese. But very cool about reading Borges and Cervantes in the original. Esp Cervantes, since he is so witty, and so much of his humor is rooted in Spanish words. It must be quite a feat translating authors like Cervantes and Shakespeare.

Also, are there any Umberto Eco fans out there (that's what I say whenever someone mentions Dan Brown)? I read his books in English translation. Love the Name of the Rose (no, not the movie) and Foucault's Pendulum. But I've tried getting through the Island of the Day Before without success. It's like he is just showing off how much he knows. I saw someone else had posted in another thread a reference to Eco's book on Beauty...

I'd like to clarify why I started this thread. I know Tannhaus is gone and I know he does not find me and jj funny as he left. But, listen to how he talks about our mods and about the users who are still on the forums and what you need to do...to do the right thing. I found his views on the matter to be a little bit of a slap in the face of the community and the mods. I don't know. It just doesn't sit well with me. You tell me what you think.

Well I personally dont think he was making an attack on the community here. I think he just felt really disrespected by the comments being made about him and was suprised that the mods let it go on.

I am all for freedom of speech. But I also believe we should be respectful of one another- So I can see both sides.

Spacie, I admit quite a few of yours and JJs posts have made me laugh.. I just think (and not just yours) sometimes some posts can go overboard and be hurtful.

I have spoke to him on several occassions, and in my opinion, he is a sweet guy and very interesting to talk to.

So, like I said, I can see both sides.. and I really enjoy talking to everyone on this forum.. and hope we can continue to have interesting conversations without being too hurtful to one another.
