I see a major difference between Cassie (who Bree has discussed) and it'scassie (who voyboy spoofs). Just my two cents, though.

Alternate personalities are real. The only debate is to what degree they are independant of the person.

They are to the point where physical reactions are different (i.e. one personality is allergic to smoking, but another personality is a cigarette addict, or eye color would change when another personality surfaces). One disturbing look at this is "When Rabbit Howls". My mother checked it out because it was about a (real) woman who also suffered terrible abuse. This woman had around 97 personalities she called "the legions", many of them men (pretty much all the men were reflections of how similar men in her life tried to protect her).

These personalities interected with each other. Some of them talked to eachother, but some could not interect with each other in any other manner except writing eachother letters.

Some of the personalities knew of eachother's existance while others did not (see the twist ending of this book ;)).

Of all cases of MPD I've studied, they arise from a need to protect the person. I like the idea that Cassie came as a result of questioning The Order; this was a surpressed side of Bree that questioned the intentions of her religion that saw its darker side like we all did.

Depression and other disorders can worsen as life goes on (who's to say she did not exhibit smaller mental disorders when she was younger?), and different mental disorders can co exist. This makes it a possibility that Cassie is both Bree and not Bree, that Cassie can act of her own will and that Bree can interact with her.

Another point which could validate a terrible hybred of schizophrenia and MPD is the fact that many people, when their other personalities come out, see themselves as being physically different than they truly are (like if a personality is of the opposit sex, they see their face as the same sex as the personality). This also provides backing for Bree having Split Personalities and yet seeing and "interacting" with Cassie.

Lucy said imaginary friends are good, but what about when they question the Order? Cassie got scared by Bree's religion and "went away". Do we know for a fact that Bree has never gone to a psychiatrist? And what's with the psychology talk Jonas does out of nowhere in the same vid where we learn Bree is gone? Hopefully this is a nod to a story twist where Bree has, um, issues.

Yes, these arguments are slight streches, but not only is it still within the relm of possibility, but the Creators have melded things many times, borrowing from things to make their own hybred to both serve their specific purposes and to not offend anyone ;).

also, let's talk about reality. Daniel going missing for days at a time and his parents don't report him missing? Daniel goes on B&E sprees and never gets caught or reported? Just how much money did Daniel happen to have to be able to stay in motels for so long??

LG15 has taught us a valueble lesson: "Reality" is what you make of it. ;)

all this to say I too like psychological/play with your head stories and plot twists. a movie i both hate and love is "momento". nuff said.

There is a possibility that Cassie could be her imaginary friend without it progressing to actual skitzophrenia.

Sorry to be a bit off topic- This overview of schizophrenia comes from http://www.schizophrenia.com/. Although I don't believe that Bree sufferes from this condition, there is an interesting RealPlayer slideshow from the NPR site called The Sights and Sounds of Schizophrenia that shares a "virtual"schizophenic experience.
It has been suggested that folks suffering from this condition don't view this "episode."

The research at the sites listed above, as well as info. not listed here, are some of the reasons why I would agree with those who don't see schizophrenia playing a role.

Imagination and psyche going wild? Repressed memories? Some obsure condition that no one but a trained professional would even know? These seems to make more sense to me (who possess absolutely no medical experience other than the "doctoring" I do as a mom).

So to get back to Holly's original point about Cassie being within Bree's head, yeah, could be. Especially with this non-Bree like credit card-snatchin' and car-stealin' episode.

I think it would be better if Cassie, with her imaginary friend Daniel and Bree, were all figments of PMonkey's imagination.

PMonkey would wake up and it was all a dream...

(Sorry, it's school vacation week, my kids are sleeping in and I'm bored. Bear with me.)

Hey, in the last vid, Bree wasn't herself. Maybe Cassie stole the car, just like "Cassie" made the prank phone calls. Whhaat?

Nevermind, that would be kind of dumb. I'm sure she left to see her dad.
