The Theta is similar to an Egyptian symbol that represents the Sun, and the Mu was derived from the Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol for water. So the Sun equals Ra...and the water equals Naunet? Or maybe Poseidon? When combined this "watcher" symbol establishes that the Order rules and watches over all that exists in between.

Theta is the 8th letter, Mu is the 12th. So that's one more 12, but the 8 = ?.

Theta was also used as an abbreviation for "Thanatos," and considered a warning of death.
Okay. I have a question.

Mu is the second 12th. So what's the first?

I think if we get that, the 8 might be put into a bit more perspective.

Then again, we might need Bree to tell us what the original 12 is if we don't already know it.
I don't know, but a wild guess might be that these numbers describe Order hierarchy of some kind.... maybe 12 Deacons and 8 Amazon Princesses (or whatever Bree is supposed to be to them)...

Anyway-- another 12? What else have we decided was was 12? Years since the family Gemma spoke of disappeared (11 years and several months, anyway)... ? Or...?

So what could be the second significance of 8?

8 has been brought up a lot of time, tachy's vids were uploaded onto gemma's account every 8 hours and i think when they were playing foosball it showed one of them had 8 points and there are more i cant think of right now

and that sign on the box was kind of an 8 on its side
my name is josh, not iamcool or iam or cool
cooltron5000 is also accepted

My lawyers told me to edit the content of this signature so i didn't get sued

Yeah, the association of 8 with infiniy and ouroboros seems like it could could possibly be relevant.

Gemma says that the girl and her family disappeared 11 years ago, but she also says that by tell us it happened when she was 8.

On that note though, why the hell did Gemma tell her about that? "The family disappeared, left their furniture and dog behind... they sounded...different afterwards... like they weren't even the same family anymore."

(indicating that the false family had no more use after the ceremony-- so does that mean the ceremony is final, somehow...? An induction to the order? Sacrifice? The next line after the 12/8 thing is about the symbol forshadowing death [of Mors-- Death Personified])

But that was supposed to make Bree WANT to do the ceremony in the long run... how?

I know-- she was supposed to scare Bree away from wanting to leave the Order and enter the real world with horrible tales of bad dates and slob roommates!@!!!

:P

Anyway, back to 8 and 12...

Wait? Why? Shouldn't we figure out at least some of the significance of the text? She's telling us about the Origin of the watcher symbol most likely to better explain their function, don't you think?

I don't think the Creators intended Gemma to be bad from the start. Even though she'd have to tell some truths and give some good advice every now and then to maintain credibility with B&D, I think some of the things she said (like what you mentioned and the warning that Bree wouldn't be allowed to choose if she didn't want to do the ceremony) were definitely not going to help OpAphid's cause.

They probably made Gemma bad after Jackie would no longer be able to portray her, and since so many people seemed to dislike or distrust Gemma. That's my theory anyway.

Yeah, that seems to be the case, Lurker.

And frankly... it's weak.

Instead of giving Gemma this long history with Order, they probably should have taken it in another, less inconsistent direction.

I don't know. It looks like the text is incomplete to me. Like smartBeast didn't give us everything in that file...it sounds like a step by step inquiry.

Its a puzzle piece. More information will come to light, and everything will fit. We may not understand it now because we aren't meant to.

And Gemma is dead, let her and those beautiful eyes R.I.P.

Doesn't mean there's nothing to be understood there now, does it, just because it won't tell us everything?

Whatever, you know the way this stuff works better than I do.

And screw that-- Gemma's character was annoyingly inconsistent, and her death doesn't make it any less so. :P
