He decides that he needs to be awake and aware if he's going to pull it off convincingly enough. Although, I just realized that maybe the video isn't fake because of the coffee cup... Maybe Jonas hadn't seen Sarah vid yet, saw Daniel in the morning, asked him to pour a cup of coffee... and Daniel did something passive aggressive like pour all the coffee down the sink and hand Jonas an empty cup. Maybe Jonas was being a dick in the video in response to that by acting as if he had a fully, tasty cup of coffee.

Or maybe I'm just way over-thinking things.

Think about it, if it hadn't been for Daniel's concern in the very beginning of the series, Bree would have already gone through with the Ceremony. I think the purity bonds was simply a subtle way to keep the girls they need as disconnected as they can so they have less variables to worry about.
