They are distorsoion pedal that you plugged between the guitar ant the amp... most of them get there name from the effect... hence wah wah will create a sound that kind of goes waaah waaaaaahhh!

I have like 20 pedals the one I put depends on the song ... my favorite one is the flanger.... Kinda make it sound like the noise is echoing in a weightless environment!!!
