Well, metaphysically, I think that the Aeon of Ra-Hoor-Khuit caused people to cast off the old ways and follow their own paths instead of obediance to another's idea of spirituality, but in non-brainwashed Thelemite terms, it's that there are more options. In the past 100 years (or 500 if you wanna start from Copernicus) Science has cast a humongous amount of doubt upon some of the long standing belief systems that the old Church held, such as the world is 6,000 years old, god created the world in 7 days, etc etc etc. As science has gained more and more ground, especially in the past 50 years, we as a society became more secular.creativebarbie wrote:This thread has really interested me. Mostly because there is a major pattern with most peoples “testimony’s”
The majority of people all started in catholic or Christian upbringing. And then for some reason or another made the choice to leave or stay. I just think it’s a very interesting reflection of our generations change of mind. Our grandparents were raised in towns that revolved around a church. It was the law and in the schools and very prominent. They then raised our parents that way and though some didn’t choose to follow it I think it’s just what they reverted back to in raising their own children since its how they were raised. It will be interesting to see the change in the answers if this question was asked to another generation of people. Just some thoughts
The problem is, we're still a spiritual species. We want to know why things are, and science doesn't really explain anything important. Sure, it's interesting to know that there were dinosaurs roaming the earth and that there are 45 protons in an atom of rhodium, but it doesn't really matter. We still don't know why we think, why we dream, what happens when we die, what makes us ALIVE instead of robotic automatons. Science, with all it's gadgets and theories, can not explain our consciousness, our soul, our being.
So we search. and we search, and we search.

Being called RA makes me feel like I should be walking through a dorm, making sure noone's puking in the hallways (resident assistant is what they always called it at our schools, it would be shitty to be in charge like that at a party school)
