First, if Bree's father is actually dead, this will certainly add to the extreme psychological pressure that Bree seems to be under. I thought this video did a good job of demonstrating the gravity of the situation from the point of view of young adults/teens with the only outlet being video editing.
Perhaps the awkwardness of the title of the video (the blatant use of the word "dead" as opposed to "Bree's dad has passed away," "has been murdered," or "has been shot"), the lack of any clear explanation, and the "RIP Bree's Dad" (which seems kind of silly and simplistic on the surface) as opposed to simply "RIP" or "Rest in peace, FIRST NAME" (because Daniel couldn't include a last name for Bree's privacy) or “with respect” could be an accurate reflection of a young adult's awkward reaction to such devastating news.
Or could this video (“Bree’s Dad is Dead”) be a ploy or trick to give the impression that our trio (B, D & J) want people to believe that they think Bree's dad is dead, when they know differently. The death of a parent is pretty serious issue to fake, however.
Or it could be a metaphorical death? (Like shunning someone from the village and saying "you are dead to me!"- which seems a little overboard for this day and age). On this token, the "Unspeakable" could have been the betrayal of a father. Perhaps he has been so brainwashed by the "order" that Bree no longer sees him as the person he used to be (for example, "since joining the cult, Johnny is just not acting the same. I don't know who he is anymore. But the old Johnny we once knew is dead...") Again, far-fetched, but it's just my own speculation.
I think I am concerned about a lonely girl of 16 years (with no mother in sight) losing the "big man" in her life and now needing to turn to "the two little men" in her life, and the damsel in distress-mode has come up lately. Bree used to be a strong-willed, independent, bright young woman with interests and goals of her own. Now her only goal seems to be reacting to those around her and getting saved at every turn by the men in her life.
I could also unprepared as a viewer to such a serious incident and the real action-movie threats of violence that were only implied in the past. Maybe, as curiousGeorge implied a page or two ago that "I guess that many pholks won't like this vid because it did not reveal much or answer any questions. Well one question was answered. Real death and grief don't answer questions either. "
I could just want answers and a happy resolution or something.
(The writers can always feel free to call, pm, or email me all the answers I need. My daughter's sick and I'll be home all day.)
Short of the writers calling, pming or emailing me to discuss the plot one-on-one, I guess I'll have to keep waiting for another video to shed some light on this situation.
I hope this made sense.
I agree, a lot of good possibilities but could it not also be taken as a threat? You know how you would say to someone "You're dead!" Bree may feel that her father has betrayed her to the point where she wants revenge or at least someone does (maybe Daniel or Jonas?). To be honest this doesn't sound likely but I thought I'd just throw it out there as a possibility. Actually as many of you have pointed out, this style of video doesn't match what we've come to expect from any of our three characters, but it could just be them attempting to be arty and emotional.
I think we're looking at this too deeply and Bree is just upset about her father dying and Daniel or Jonas trying to give him an emotional video to respect his passing. Not every video has a hidden meaning.
How do we know that they didn't hear a report on the news or read it even in the newspaper? Maybe since I'm from a much smaller city than anything in Cali that it would be uncommon there. Not saying that I am from a pathetic little town...but I mean most things like shootings and important things like that are at least mentioned in the police reports in the paper. They could have seen Bree's Dad get shot and then heard that someone died from the news (whether TV or paper). Then they could have assumed.
The way Bree screamed "no" from video 108 leads me to believe that they saw the fatal shot. Are we even completely certain that the figure standing alone is even Bree's Dad?
But hey... i have a program called sound soap that cleans up noise. I have been listening to this repeatedly and trying to filter it out. this is the best i could make of it
by the way the first part is the worst. and remember this is just my guess.
first part sounds like "...a very urgent call here"
second part sounds like - "annnnd on what side (or 'one side') do we got the..."
third part sounds like - "...3 with the idea that..."
its all so noisy its hard to say but thats what it sounded like to me.

Good points. We don't know for certain who anyone in the video was. There are strong hints based on screenshots, and it really does look like the guy with the hat is standing after the screenshot, but that certainly doesn't mean he didn't die. Heck, after the camera moved away, B,D,&J could have seen him fall.
Also, we have to remember that video time isn't necessarily real time, due to editing and such. There could have been a longer real time (in the Breeniverse) between the Unthinkable and RIP Mr. Bree, which would have given time for them to get word (somehow) or read a newspaper report about his death.
