Thank you. Deagol did most of the work though, I concentrated on the blundering. :-) Video was awesome. Can't wait for Walter to return, I miss being snarked at.

Oh good, another onion layer. So now we're working from:

Code: Select all

6(-a) 6(+b) 6(-a) 12(-c) 6(-a) 12(-c) 6(-a) 12(-c) 6(-a) 6(-d) 6(-a) 12(-c)
or its numeric equivalent:

Code: Select all

6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)
with a hint to use base-N arithmetic, for some N most likely 6 or 12 given past behavior, although we can't rule out our old friend 8. Those 6's make it unlikely to be base 6. Tum te tum.

Removing all the symbols (,),+,- from the number key:

66 61 66 124 66 124 66 124 66 65 66 124

Interpreted as decimal ascii, B=B|B|B|BAB|

Looks sort of like a song structure... and, that original key for the shifts was a b a c a c a c a d a c.

Please, don't make us analyze the song structures on that stupid album. I think I never want to hear an ukelele again in my life.

Edit: I'm not running this idea by TJ, because I honestly feel embarrassed from it. What a shame, Team J and the things we had achieved, to come to this. Also, I'm a bit afraid of a positive answer.

Ok, so I just finished running around the house flailing my arms and screaming wildly, followed by a short session of beating my head against the wall :smt119 ](*,)

I'm taking a deep breath and I'm ready to ask a couple of questions.

So Deag, how do you get a song structure out of this? I'm a little dense. I don't see it.

Hmmm. have to think about what to do with that.

That is the only sequence you need. Some of the numbers you are using have an obvious similarity that will tell you how to deal with everything else you have. I'm not sure what else to tell you. I'm getting nervous about hanging on to these vials for so long.

I replied:
Perhaps we're not smart enough to know what to do with the vials, after all.

So you replaced the -0 in the sequence with -C and Traveler gave it the OK?

Would that now make the sequence:

6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)

if C = 4?

Sorry, I'm just catching up - had to step away for a bit, it was making my brain hurt.

So what we have is

6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)

and OOOOOOOCOOOO

Is that correct?

or is it OOOOOOOOOOOO?

It's OOOOOOOCOOOO, but we've been told we can discard that now, we're just left with the numbers. All that decoding was just to replace a -1 by a +1, and a -0 by a -4. Hurumph.

So all we have to work with now is this number sequence?

6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)

Yes, although there are some slight variants:

6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-C) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)
6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(4) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)
6(-6) 6(+1) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(-4) 6(-6) 12(C) 6(-6) 6(-5) 6(-6) 12(-4)

depending on quite how the "C"-to-"-0" swap is done.

Also, this is using the number string with a "fixed" second entry. If we use the original "broken" number string, then that 6(+1) becomes 6(-1).
