Complaint about some of the posters on the forum

Post by longlostposter »

There seems to be an inordinate number of posters on this forum who want to run to mods when they don't like what someone has posted to them or someone else. It is ridiculous that the mods have to deal with this. Either respond in the thread on your own, or PM the person.

Personally, I never run to mods about what someone has said to, or about, me. I would consider it childish of me to do so.

Now feel free to flame me all you want.

Juli

I'd rather have people running to the mods than getting in flame wars. But yeah, it'd be nice if they at least *tried* to work it out first :)

This is a case by case thing though.

i can understand mod intervetion when a person is threatend or something, but if I told you "You smell bad and your mom dresses you funny," i'd have to insult you even more after you went to the mod.

It's the way I roll.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure which option is worse. At least if you flame eachother there is some sort of satisfaction in it..but aren't we technically supposed to go to a mod? I mean, once you have that much of a problem with someone, you're probably not gonna work it out with them. The mod in many cases, isn't going to really help anything anyway...which I guess isn't their fault. There's only so much they can / will do. :smt096

I agree with Juli here. Most arguments begin with a simple misunderstanding. A simple pm can clear those up instantly. Going to a mod to complain when someone upsets you before finding out what was meant or trying to work it out, shows an inability to resolve problems (which everyone should have learned at some level by now - remember when the teacher used to say "talk it out, then come to me"?). This also causes bad feelings among the people involved that could have been avoided with a simple pm.

I hope that you don't mind if I comment here. I am new to posting on this forum, though not new to watching the LG15 series... I have also been a member of a number of forums/message boards, though admittedly the forum etiquette may be different in the UK than here...

Wisely said!! I agree with that in principle...though the operative word here is "most", I think.

Pardon me, but I disagree and think that's a bit of a harsh judgement about someone's choice to go to a mod for starters.
If you see a pattern with someone and they have an m.o. of taking pot shots or trying to get into picky fights, it's reasonable to assume that there's a good probability a "simple pm" won't clear up the situation instantly.

Each member on a forum has a pattern that emerges and how someone else deals with an apparent difficulty that arises has to be decided on a case by case basis. pm-ing a mod straight off can be about handling a problem very well _or_ it could arise from dodgy skills at problem resolution. It depends on the person and context, both.

That's my opinion on it, but I respect the opinion of those who differ.

I should have been more clear. I was speaking of when a problem first arises not when there is already a feud or negative history. A lot of times when we feel blind sided, it is because of a misunderstanding. In other words if it came out of the blue, chances are it was a misunderstanding. I feel those can resolved between the individuals.

Ah, I see what you mean...yes, getting something cleared up straight off, and in a way so it remains 'between friends' and doesn't leave either person feeling like the "authorities" have been evoked on them.

Very good point Aithne.

Apo voluntarily went back to fan status a few weeks ago. He posted something about it somewhere. No secrets or controversies here...I think he liked fandom! :)
