I've seen a fair amount of people use the words "cult" and "occult" interchangeably on this board, so I thought I'd just throw this out there.

From dictionary.com
cult
–noun
1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
8. any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.

–adjective
9. of or pertaining to a cult.
10. of, for, or attracting a small group of devotees: a cult movie.
occult
–adjective
1. of or pertaining to magic, astrology, or any system claiming use or knowledge of secret or supernatural powers or agencies.
2. beyond the range of ordinary knowledge or understanding; mysterious.
3. secret; disclosed or communicated only to the initiated.
4. hidden from view.
5. (in early science)
a. not apparent on mere inspection but discoverable by experimentation.
b. of a nature not understood, as physical qualities.
c. dealing with such qualities; experimental: occult science.
6. Medicine/Medical. present in amounts too small to be visible: a chemical test to detect occult blood in the stool.

–noun
7. the supernatural or supernatural agencies and affairs considered as a whole (usually prec. by the).
8. occult studies or sciences (usually prec. by the).

–verb (used with object)
9. to block or shut off (an object) from view; hide.
10. Astronomy. to hide (a celestial body) by occultation.

–verb (used without object)
11. to become hidden or shut off from view.
I hope this is helpful in avoiding confusion.

At least according to dictionary.com, there is no exact antonym for "occult". I did, however, find a list of antonyms for "arcane" which is listed as the first synonym for "occult".
arcane
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: secret
Antonyms: common, commonplace, comprehensible, knowable, known

in most of the UK, its referred to as a "sect" not a cult.

i guess it could be offensive to some but it depends on what side of the issue you are on. usually its used in a bad way.

Well, I don't know there is one. But, there is the idea in the occult that there is knowledge that cannot be communicated with words...so I guess the opposite would be a religion you can discuss fully and adequately.

Well, that would sort of be impossible. I found a drawing online. I changed it around a bit...making it more like I wanted..

So, it's the product of me and another person...

But, I CAN tell you that the god depicted is Horus

oh thanks but

"Hands Resist Him" by Bill Stoneham.

You know, the "haunted" painting of E-bay? It has an, erm, interesting history behind it. Google it. :)

Well, I have this jet black thing hanging on my living room wall. Well, actually it's a very dull flat black. It looks like a narrow man's face, with almost bunny ears...it's sorta creepy and Donny Darko-ish.

Well, the thing is, if you turn it over....you realize it's a real dog skull.

There's an artist in Texas that works with bones. My old voudou priestess got it from her and put it in her shop for sale. I saw it and was like "Ahhhhh!!! I must have it!!"

lol

Cool. What's even cooler, though, is human leather-bound books.
