Egypt and the Rosicrucian Order

Post by QueenofSpades »

Originally, the idea of Bree belonging to the Rosicrucian Order was brought up here:
http://www.lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=745

But now from the recent video, "Learning Egyptian" it seems to relate even more.

I was just reading this book Weird California by Greg Bishop, Joe Oesterle, and Mike Marinacci, and they have some information on the Rosicrucian Order, talking about the Order's headquarters at Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California.

1. "The Rosicrucians do not claim to be a religion, but rather a mystical association."

2. Notice the name- Rosicrucian Order

3. At Rosicrucian Park, there's a bunch of Egyptian architecture, and it also has the largest collection of ancient Egyptian relics in the western United States.

4. Also at Rosicrucian Park, there's a huge research library with tons of books on mysticism (adults studying egyptian as gemma said?), as well as a planetarium.

Here's some more history about the order in the book:
"In 1915, businessman and occultist Harve Spencer Lewis announced to the world that Pharaoh Akhenaton's secret society was now taking applications. The society was known as the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis (AMORC), or the Rosicrucians. Lewis was its Imperator, or head.

"AMORC claimed to have been founded by the ancient rule Akhenaton, generally credited as the first monotheistic sovereign. From there, it worked through Western history in a 108-year cyrcles of public and private activity, making an especially strong splash in the Renaissance, when the followers of the legendary Christian Rosenkreuz antagonized the Catholic Church with their faith in reason, personal enlightenment, and a coming new age. Many great men in history have allegedly been members of the secret society. With the twentieth century underway, the group's leaders had apparently decided it was once again time to resurface."
Aleister Crowley also comes into the picture here:

But the Rosicrucian Order isn't a secret society any more... and Alister Crowley plays a pretty small role. If Bree has a shrine to him in her room, it has to be a religion where Crowley is much more important.

I think it's a good possibility that the creators have thrown a bunch of things together. BTW, this "order" is also related to the "The Brotherhood of Luxor" I posted about.

I've always thought it obvious that it's probably a mix of several things put into one fictional religion...which makes sense why so many different religions and societies have extensive arguments for them on these threads.

What about those 108-year cycles of private and public activity?

If the last cycle started in 1915, it would mean it would end in 2023, which is coming up...

You're probably right, Kasdeja, her religion is probably a branch or mix of many.
