One step at a time, before the next. I wouldn't want to confuse you. Figure out what you need and we'll go from there.

Step 1: Always be prepared.

From base64 translates to:

Code: Select all

1: 303935303431313331333130
2: 333231323132323931353230

4: 333932303431313331333130
5: 383234353834333430343937

7: 363236353133323931353230
8: 353233323331313933353830
9: 363231353633323931353230
A: 343236353037363136373230

E: 353735363230363933333430
F: 313732383330363933333430
And with every other column of 3's taken out:

Code: Select all

1: 095041131310
2: 321212291520
3: 976791639687

D: 847568616720
E: 575620693340

Then using the UPC database we were able to find out that they were all DVDs

profile updated again...

"Finding the Order is simple. As long as you watch each one closely (and can spare the hours, of course). With any luck you'll work past any 'identity' issues to make the necessary connections as well."

(at the very bottom) base64 - to Hex - to text

l: Those damn cults.

m: Two words. Dick Gregory

n: He is such a badass. His voice naturally has that sonic echo underneath it when he yells. It just takes a lot out of him.

o: Probably grounded? She looks so young for her age.

p: This is late night decision making at its worst.

q: No better way to start the day than gossiping about new students.

r: Shortly after the final shotgun.

s: Just after dawn, but before I'm lying.

t: LD188A

u: Going through changes, lots of changes.

v: ‘Eddie’ gets the girl (eventually).

z: This last minute strategy makes sense as a failsafe, but why wouldn’t you give yourself an even better window to work within?
Tachyon just updated her profile. Under Favorite Books it says:

which, when decoded from base 64 gives you this in ASCII:

4d 61 74 63 68 20 74 68 65 20 71 75 6f 74 65 2f 73 63 65 6e 65 2f 73 65 71 75 65 6e 63 65 20 28 69 6e 20 6c 6f 77 65 72 63 61 73 65 29 20 74 6f 20 74 68 65 20 6d 6f 76 69 65 20 28 69 6e 20 55 50 50 45 52 43 41 53 45 29 2e 20 57 61 74 63 68 20 61 6e 64 20 63 6f 6d 70 61 72 65 20 74 68 65 20 6c 6f 77 65 72 63 61 73 65 20 73 63 65 6e 65 20 69 6e 20 65 61 63 68 20 55 50 50 45 52 43 41 53 45 20 6d 6f 76 69 65 20 74 6f 20 66 69 6e 64 20 61 20 70 61 74 74 65 72 6e 20 74 68 61 74 20 77 69 6c 6c 20 64 65 74 65 72 6d 69 6e 65 20 68 6f 77 20 79 6f 75 20 68 61 6e 64 6c 65 20 74 68 65 20 55 50 50 45 52 43 41 53 45 20 6c 65 74 74 65 72 73 2f 6e 75 6d 62 65 72 73 2e

then decode this from hex and you get:

Match the quote/scene/sequence (in lowercase) to the movie (in UPPERCASE). Watch and compare the lowercase scene in each UPPERCASE movie to find a pattern that will determine how you handle the UPPERCASE letters/numbers.

how is Back to the Future being approached? I think I read in another thread that we were considering scenes from the second movie. Since the third movie is set in the wild west, it seems that it would have lots of references to shotguns. Could the clue be near the end of the third movie?

(Sorry I can't help directly, but hopefully that speculation might be of some use. GOOD LUCK to everyone; I admire all that you've been able to work out so far!)

The shot gun answer is wrong. It has to be something else.

*trying to catch up* - meaning that the shotgun reference doesnt' come from the BttF movies?

Did we rule out Sure Thing for the shotgun reference?

I apologize for being dense. I have NO clue how you guys get the words out of the code and that's got a lot to do with this question

Anyway, do we know that these are definitely the movies, and the "quotes" are just mismatched to the wrong movies?

Does that question even make sense?

Finally, a puzzle I could have helped with (I'm a huge movie buff) and it all took place over the weekend, when I wasn't around. Bah.

that might be it. that movie has 2 or 3 references to that, scenes where the characters "shotgun" a beer.

I'm thinking the last minute strategy/failsafe one could potentially be related to Back to the Future. It's been a looong time since I saw any of the movies though. They weren't favorites of mine, really.

Anyone who might have more insight there?

The code was a list of UPC numbers, so we are positive that the movies are right.

Yo Tachy --

Maybe i'm just a geek, but I've been punching doors over this whole movie thing. My poor friends have spent all day watching the same movie over and over and over again. I think that only movies like Must Love Dogs, and High Fidelity, could be watched so many times and retain enjoyment! A little help please?!?

Firm handshakes,

Wargames is such a great movie -- that is the scene where Matthew Broderick's character gets locked into a waiting room at the infirmary at NORAD and he jerryrigs his escape by using a tape recorder to record the keypad sequence. Hopefully someone figures out the time of that scene!
