Ok, so there's been a lot of speculation about what Bree's religion was (the order the ceremony etc.), but after all the shit thats happened, I doubt Bree still believes in any of it. So the question is, now what does she believe?

I don't think she believes anything. And there never was a religion. It was like a cover up maybe

This is an excellent question.

Bree seemed to believe it was a real religion, almost for her entire life. Now she knows it isn't. What does she believe now?

One of the things I found most interesting from Miles' and Greg's Internet radio show was that they said the picture of Aleistair Crowley on Bree's bedroom wall will definitely be important and factor into the storyline.

So while it seems like the idea of the Order has gotten away from being a "religion" and more like a "secret society", I'm guessing it's going to come back around to religion at some point! The plot seems, to me, being moved into a direction where Bree's going to learn the secrets of the Order soon enough.

I agree. I think it is a made up deal that kind of mirrors aspects of other organizations. The whole conspiracy thing reminds me of Scientology in ways.

I thought the creators said it was a made up religion. Maybe I am mistaken.

I believe the so-called religion is more than a religion. My theory now is that whatever it is, it is old and even possibly one of the very first religions. I'm talking Egypt/Sumeria/Babylonia. A culmination of them, perhaps?
I like the idea that it originated as a sect of the Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten's own, pet religion in which all other gods beside the sun god were no longer to be worshiped by the Egyptian people. He was, on record, the first monotheist. It caused quite a stir, a revolution, really.
Imagine that the Gnostics who were persecuted under the Caesars and shunned at the Council of Nicaea being descendants of descendants of ... etc., the cult of Aten!

That'd be cool. Well, to me anyway.

Oh but as far as a religion goes, after thousands of years these people cultivated their power, worked clandestine operations and became something equivalent to the Illuminati or *PNAC :)

I think you're very, very close to the truth. As this ancient religion progressed over time and grew in power, it would naturally draw on various influences and become what it is today - a pseudo-religion/secret society.

If I found myself horribly disillusioned by my religion, I probably wouldn't jump to another one so fast-- or probably ever.
