I see your point Lass, I guess I don't understand the complexity of the issue from a legal stand point. To me it seemed more of a question of semantics, and to a large degree it is, there is a larger number of people who would be willing to grant the rights without the name of marriage attached. It is the word that bothers many in the middle that otherwise could be counted on to support the cause.

But just to clarify my position personally, I am not against gay marriage, and I don't have any problem with the word marriage being used.

Yeah, a lot of folks don't understand the complexity of the legal issues -- I have to say that I didn't myself until I went to a workshop at an American Bar Association meeting and learned about the difference between civil unions and marriage.
